Summary Credit to @cardea ! The 20th Anniversary Sailor Moon Musical project, commonly referred to as “New Myu” by fans, began in 2013 with the musical La Reconquista. The project continued for the next four years, adding a new musical every year, giving a total of five musicals: La Reconquista, Petite Etrangere, Un Nouveau Voyage, Amour Eternal, and Le Mouvement Final. Unlike the older musicals, all five musicals are directly related in plot and are clearly continuations of the others. They depart from the tradition of the old musicals in many other ways as well, such as the entirely new music written by Toshihiko Sahashi, and the introduction of a female-only cast, based on the Takarazuka Revue, a Japanese theater troupe popular with Naoko Takeuchi. However, despite these differences, the musicals still share many similarities such as scriptwriter Takuya Hiramitsu, who both pulls inspiration from and gives subtle nods to the old musicals. One of the greatest similarities between the old and new musicals, however, is their popularity. In addition to each musical having multiple shows across Japan, Petite Etrangere expanded the Sailor Moon universe by having the first international shows in Shanghai, China. In the United States as well, a shortened version of the musical Amour Eternal was shown after its original run, and movie theaters are set to show Le Mouvement Final in March of 2018. While there is no confirmed continuation of this particular set of musicals at this time, they have paved the way for future Sailor Moon stage projects both in and out of Japan.
