So after Usagi x Mamoru got beat out in the Valentine's Day OTP contest this year, I've been thinking about the two of them a lot. That's when this debate title caught my eye! It was never a question that I even thought to ask. To me it seemed like a straightforward thing: they just fell in love at kind of a bad time. What is there to justify?

Well, the argument goes that the two of them should have seen past the ends of their own noses and realized that their forbidden relationship would not be worth the trouble it may have helped cause. On the other hand, their pure love in the end did prevail and allowed for the total defeat of Metallia - even if it was many many MANY years later. But this is starting to sound like a catch-22!

So, which is it? Is Serenity and Endymion's love justified? Let's see who's stepping up to the plate on each side of this one!

I feel like their love is justified. I mean, sure it was a factor in triggering events that lead to the Silver Millennium's downfall, but I put the blame on the Dark Kingdom moreso than them. Primarily, that the fact that Beryl was willing and capable of making a deal with the devil to get a guy she liked, kinda shows she was not emotionally stable to begin with. Besides, we don't know if Metallia would've found another way out and the result could have been the same, regardless. (Plus the Silver Millennium/Princess Serenity was already cursed, thanks to Nehellenia, so bad things would've happened anyway)

I might've fallen off track, but those are my thoughts. I feel like the taboo of their love might've been more on bias of their homes (though I might be getting that from various fan fictions).

on one side of things, Serenity explicitly states that their falling in love is forbidden by law of God, so there is that, the results of their love could have been a form of divine punishment, although a rather harsh one all things considered. So while I'm not usually one to deny true love, when the fate of not one, but two entire civilizations is at stake, smiting the laws of a divine entity isn't usually a good idea. 

That being said, you're right that their love did end up defeating Metalia. But who's to say that there was no other way? 

So while I am for their miracle romance, while I do believe that they both genuinely love each other, I don't really think they were in the right to put the lives of all of their citizens at stake.

I'm inclined to say no... How well did they actually know each other before the kingdom's downfall? Probably not very well, considering they lived on separate planets. The Dark Kingdom should get the primary blame but the two of them should bear some responsibility as well.
