Advanced Character Profile

Character Name: Melody Charmaine
Gender: Female
Age: At least a thousand years old
Species: Siren
Universe: Original Fantasy - City of Shadows
Canon or Original: Original

Appearance: Standing at 5'8", Melody is of average height with long dark hair and brown eyes. She likes to appear impeccable and makes sure that she’s the prettiest girl in the room, so you'll likely find her all done up in make-up and the most beautiful or stylish dress. Even though it does not take much for her to put people under her thrall with her voice alone, she still likes the idea that she does not need powers to make people fall under her spell. She would typically wear very feminine and fashionable attire. High heels are a must.

Personality: Age has made Melody have an even temper and endless patience for things that would normally upset most people. Perhaps this is why she is a good choice for the mayor of Raven’s Hollow. She might look young and naïve, but she is very wise and knowledgeable about the world, especially its many supernatural inhabitants. Her job makes it necessary for her to understand each of the people she governs intimately. Of course, her power is able to generally make them fall in line, but she knows that isn’t enough and that most times it would only be a temporary measure at best. So she makes it her duty to know as much as she could about each of them, knowing their strengths, weaknesses, and what makes them tick. This helps her control them, negotiate with them, and make sure at the end of the day everyone’s happy. Because Melody does not believe in ruling with an iron fist or through her powers alone.

When she’s not actively working, as a Siren she’s extremely flirtatious and will approach both men and women to satisfy her needs. She has a playful, adventurous, and vivacious side underneath the layer of seriousness and responsibility. However, Melody knows what’s work and play and generally is able to separate the two with a clear line. Usually.

As patient and understanding as Melody can be, you don’t want to get on her bad side. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned is a phrase that fits Melody like a glove. She has quite the jealousy problem and won’t take kindly to someone dumping her for someone else, especially if they lie to her about it. Being cheated on is her pet peeve. She’s been raised with the idea that she’s beautiful and irresistible, and she doesn’t like to be proven otherwise. Melody just has a bit of a vanity problem and things can get ugly when her appearance or competence in the physical nature of relationships is insulted. With her destructive powers, she has a real ability to make someone truly regret crossing her.

Any Unique Abilities/Skills:

Active:

  • Siren’s Call: By humming or singing a song, Melody can enthrall anyone and put them under her spell. They would not be able to resist what she tells them to do. However, the power only lasts for as long as she’s able to sing, and the more people she tries to capture under her spell, the more effort it takes from her.
  • Enhanced Swimming: She can move lightning fast while under water and all her senses are heightened as well.
  • Sound Manipulation: She can also use her voice as a means of destruction; using high frequency sound waves in order to inflict pain and even physical damage on objects.

Passive:

  • Knowledge of Desire: When she has formed a bond with someone, she can sense their desires, usually starting with something shallow (like what they desire to eat at that moment in time). As their bond grows, she will be able to sense deeper desires.
  • Fountain of Youth: Though she does age slowly, her beauty and youth never changes.

Weapons/Magical Items: N/A - Her weapon is her body

History:
Born to a Siren mother and a mortal father, Melody knew exactly what she was and what she was capable of since she was a little girl. She needed only to look at her father and how devoted he was to her mother to know the power that she had been blessed with. Of course, her parents assured her that it hadn’t been magic that sustained their love for so many years—that magic could only do so much. But a part of Melody always doubted that it was all real.

When Melody was a young teenager, some humans in their neighborhood discovered the truth about the sirens and pulled out the pitchforks, so to speak. They barely got away with their lives, and Melody’s father, defenseless as he was, died protecting his wife. Melody and her mother ran away from the human settlement and searched long and hard for a safe place for them to live. They discovered that no matter how much they tried to blend in, eventually suspicion always followed them. And so they kept moving, jumping from one town to the next, until they heard about Raven’s Hollow from an Oracle. They looked for the town with her directions, and finally found it.

Ever since losing her husband, Melody’s mother was never quite the same, and a few years after they settled in Raven’s Hollow, perhaps feeling that her daughter was finally safe, Melody’s mother succumbed to her heartbreak and passed away. Melody stayed in the town, the first place that she felt she could belong without having to try hard to hide her abilities.

Her mother had always tried to instill a sense of responsibility in her, to never abuse her powers, and this eventually helped Melody secure the seat of town mayor when the next election came around. They trusted her, and most people there liked her. It seemed impossible to lead a town filled with so many different types of beings, but Melody had managed it just fine so far. At least, until these disappearances happened and she felt completely out of her depth.

Other Noteworthy Facts: N/A

Universe Specific Information: The town of Raven's Hollow is not your ordinary city. It is filled with supernatural creatures; from werewolves to sirens, from angels to demons, from the ones haunting the humans' nightmares to the most beautiful dreams. It is one of the last refugees left for these creatures, which were quickly becoming extinct after being hunted by humans in various places out of fear that they would assert their superiority otherwise with their magical powers and abilities.

Species Information: Sirens are water-based creatures that typically take the form of a beautiful woman with enchantingly magical voice. In the old myths, they lure people into their deaths by making them steer their ships toward dangerous rocks in the ocean, ultimately crashing. Sirens are neither good nor evil by definition; some of them choose to use their powers for malice, while some don’t. The newer generations have decided to live on land rather than on the ocean, and these types, while still very adept at swimming, have usually lost their ability to transform into the bird-like creatures that they used to be depicted as.

A siren can be most easily incapacitated by muffling their voice in some way or preventing them from singing. They see mermaids in particular as a rather inferior species; a pale mimicry of their majestic selves.

Storyline Specific Information:
City of Shadows: Recently, a new unknown threat has appeared in Raven's Hollow. Some of the townspeople felt it when the new presence arrived. The more sensitive ones felt the ominous tingle of electricity in the air, others felt their dreams disturbed by a half-formed premonition. The seers knew an age of change was coming, but for the first time could not tell for sure what it was. As days went on, one by one the townspeople began to disappear, seemingly vanishing into thin air from various places. First, a fairy. Then, a warlock. After that, a vampire.

At first, the townspeople blamed each other. See, maintaining the peace between all the different clans and races in Raven's Hollow was no easy task, with some of them being natural-born enemies, and some who physically could not stand each other. But when the vanishings continued to take random creatures of all races, seemingly affecting all of them, they soon realized that this threat did not come from their own neighbors. It was something else entirely, perhaps something they had never encountered before. And if they would have any hope to fight it, they must, for the first time in their lives, learn to not only get along, but also work together.

RP Sample:

Las Vegas, sometime ago

Melody had been eyeing the most gorgeous guy in the entire casino who was winning big. Watching him was addictive; the way he kept rolling the dice and earning stacks after stacks of chips to the applause and hollers of all his audience. This was a guy who knew how to make a scene and show the whole world what he had and capable of taking. In short; exactly Melody’s kind of guy. She had been staying at the periphery of the circle of people around him for a while, looking for a way in. Naturally, he was already surrounded by girls, so that meant Melody had to be patient and wait for an opening. Sure, she could just shove everyone else out of the way like she usually did, but this one was a high-roller and she wasn’t going to be reckless. Besides, he had a bodyguard who eyed everyone suspiciously. At least she was pretty sure it was his bodyguard.

Her opportunity came when one of the girls was dragged away by their jealous boyfriend. Melody smoothly stepped into the spot that had just been vacated by the girl, quicker than any of the other women around her. In her revealing black dress, Melody was confident that her target needed only to take one look at her and he would stop looking anywhere else. As he rolled the dice and the crowd once again went wild with the winning, Melody smiled.

“They say you should quit while you’re ahead,” she told him, leaning both hands on the table. “But you’re the type to go big or go home, aren’t you?” She gave him her most charming smile. She wasn’t going to use magic; not yet. She believed she was irresistible enough without it, even though it always guaranteed anyone to immediately fall on their knees and worship the ground she walked on. But for special challenges such as these, Melody liked to set the bar high and try to prove to herself that she could win him without any unfair advantage. She was just that pretty, after all.
