Appearance: Stein is easily 6'2'', though he might seem slightly smaller as he tends to slouch more than he has a good posture. He is muscular, seemingly healthy with broad shoulders and strong arms (a state nurtured by years of yielding weapons and training both body and mind). If he appears mostly innoffensive (he is seen more often sitting backwards on a rolling chair) the opinion clearly changes when he's standing and towering, he does give a certain vibe that can chill someone's spine. More so if his lips split into a manic smile.

His skin is pale, the skin of someone who rarely goes outside and rarely sees the light. His has a square jaw, short pale gray hair, green eyes and a stitched scar going around his left eyes.

Any Unique Abilities/Skills:
Soul Perception: Stein can forgoe normal vision to see someone else's soul. That way, he can generally conclude the type of person his interlocutor is and how, if a foe, he can fight them in battle. It is not an entirely common capacity in his universe.
Soul Resonance: It's an ability Stein can only use with another weapon where both their soul wavelenghts somewhat merge their powers together in order to make them stronger.
Weapon Wielding: Stein is a Meister (or technician), meaning that while some people are born weapons, others are born to wield weapons. It's Stein's case. He is also the strongest Meister the academy produced as of yet (not including Death who is the creator of the school and has a good 800 years of experience on Stein).
Wavelenght Adapting: Usually to be able to wield a weapon, a Meister and said weapon has to be compatible. In Stein's case, it doesn't matter. He can adapt his own wavelenght to match his weapon's (or someone else's attack in order to nullify it), thus making him able to wield every weapons he meets. Again, in his case, it has to be a weapon he is interested in, because no matter how his soul wavelenght is adaptable (read limitlessly), his own personality makes that if he has no interest in a weapon, he won't even bother adapting to it.
Wavelenght Attack: If most Meister need their weapon to attack others, Stein can use his own soul wavelenght to attack others, resulting most of the time in shock waves. He can kill someone with it.
Wavelenght Sutures: Stein is capable of making sutures appear on a foe in order to keep them where they are, in order to paralyze them or he can also use them on himself (for example to keep from being send backwards).
Agility: Stein, despite his height and weight, is incredibly fast and agile. He is hard to follow in a battle and most of the time hard to attack. It's not rare that foes have to defend themselves more than they can attack him.
Martial Arts: Stein trains his body and mind every day and he is knowledgeable in matial arts. It was after all the only thing that maintained a certain amount of sanity in his head for the longest time.

History: Stein entered fairly young at Shibusen and was partnered with Spirit with whom he became friend. At this age, he was already under the influence of his personal madness, making him a threat for both others and himself. It seemed however that during the time Stein and Spirit worked as a team, the older boy (Spirit), was able to calm down Stein and keep him from doing stuff that would have gotten him kicked out of the school.

Both went their own way when the future wife of Spirit discovered scars along Spirit's body that showed, she said that Stein did experiment on his weapon's body. She was able to get Spirit to be transfered and to become his weapon while Stein keep studying and quickly became the strongest Meister the school ever trained.

After his training, Stein went away, but came back when Lord Death asked for his return and his help, new scars on all his body and a screw thrugh his head. He first helped in grading Maka and Black Star's training, then fully took on the mantle of teacher.

After the reappearance of the Demon Sword, where he got reacquainted with his former weapon (with which he still formed an excellent if not perfect team), he was the first to be weary of Medusa, the current nurse at the academy at the time. A nurse that turned out to be a witch. When her plan to awake Asura (a man completely mad that once worked with Death) from his prison was finally revealed to all, most of Shibusen's teachers and students were locked in a room by the witch and her followers' magic. Stein, Spirit, along with the star students of the academy were sent away just before the room was locked, thus becoming the only hope to stop the awakening of Asura.

Stein and Spirit teamed again, but despite getting rid of Medusa, the children failed in keeping her followers from awakening Asura.

The descent into madness started for Stein, but he resisted as long as he was able to, helping Death into purchasing Asura and stopping the rise of madness and evil. When his mind tipped over the edge (helped by Medusa's - not death - plan), he left Shibusen and went to the witch's side.

While everyone else fought against Asura, Stein was rescued by Maka and came back to the school, taking on the mantle of teacher again.
Other Noteworthy Facts:
-Stein is incredibly sensitive to madness-induced wavelenghts and controls his humors with the screw that passes through his head.
-Though he can adapt to any weapon, he has an obvious preference for his first and former partner Spirit.
-Unlike most people touched by Asura's madness, Stein is able to sense himself falling under its rule and tries to resist, with some success, until he is completely invaded by it.
-His madness was cured by Marie (another of Lord Death's weapon) whose wavelenght can heal other's madness. Though it was cured then, Stein is not rid of it. It has recede to the normal level of madness he has known all his life.
-The scars and screw was his own doing.
