Advanced Character Profile

Character Name: Nadia Seraphina
Gender: Female
Age: Immortal
Species: Fallen Angel
Universe: Original Fantasy - City of Shadows
Canon or Original: Original

Appearance: Nadia appears demure and reserved at first glance - just another ordinary girl in the crowd, one that people tend to look over. At 5' 6½" with dark brown hair and brown eyes, she doesn’t stand out easily for those who are unaware of the extent of her powers or her true identity. She is beautiful, and will use this in order to charm those around her. Her attire changes according to her mood or whatever befits the occasion, but these days she prefers not to wear anything conservative, boring, or too demure. Black is her usual go-to color, though sometimes she will wear all-white for irony.

Personality: Nadia has changed a lot throughout the years. When she was a Seraphim, she’d been the perfect literal angel. Kind hearted, helpful, always wanting to guide humans to a better path. Wanting to believe the best in people. She had a heart full of love that had only been waiting for someone to receive it. But when heaven punished her, everything changed.

Gone was the sweet, kind, and patient guardian angel, and on her place there was now an angel of terror; a creature who’s meant to strike fear into people’s hearts. And indeed Nadia’s own heart has become cold as ice. She does not regret committing murder and has lost her faith in the place she came from. The loss of her family made her bitter, and she does not care for much anymore. Even though now that she’s been cast out, they probably don’t care anymore what she does, she still feels aversion to the idea of opening her heart to love again. After all, she had loved with all her heart once, and had been destroyed by it. Now she’s just going to settle with temporary pleasures, taking anything and everything that she wants whenever she wants it.

Any Unique Abilities/Skills:

Active:

  • Flight: She can use her wings to fly.
  • Terror: She can strike terror into a person’s heart, intimidating them and making them cower before her.
  • Darkness Manipulation: She can manipulate darkness and shadows, turning them into solid objects that can restrain others like extended limbs of her own, or turning them into pure energy to hurt.

Passive:

  • Healing: As an immortal being, when hurt by ordinary weapons, she can easily heal herself.
  • Immortality: She doesn't age and will stay young forever until she is slain.

Weapons/Magical Items:
Chrysalis: Its name signifying the transformation that she has gone through, Chrysalis is Nadia’s weapon—a sword with an etched decoration resembling the wings of a butterfly around its upper part. The blade is made from obsidian, giving it a dark, almost black color. It will not appear in elongated form unless it’s intended for use.

History:
Nadia was born too long ago to remember in the place the humans called heaven, among the other Seraphim. At some point, even paradise seemed tedious—after all, not a lot changed up there. And she was immortal. She’d always been curious about the humans, whose lives she had only observed from afar. These short-lived creatures, full with bad judgment and mistakes, yet also possessing the immense capability to change and forgive at times. To not give up even in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds, even when they had no powers of their own and such a fragile life.

So, one day, she came down among them, choosing to live in their midst for a while. Choosing to settle in England, she tried to adapt to the lives of the mortals while still helping them out whenever she could, hiding her powers from suspicious eyes. She lived through the hard times, when magic was something feared and when those who were even suspected of practicing them were persecuted in horrible ways. Slowly but surely, the world evolved, and soon magic became just a thing of myth, of mockery, of something entirely impossible that the mortals decided to deny their existence completely. They no longer hunted those who were special, but rather refused to believe the powers existed altogether with their ignorance.

The more she spent time among humans, the more like them she became. And then, she fell in love.

Gabriel Thorne might possess the name of an angel, but he was very much human. The two of them had a whirlwind romance, but the more she fell for him, the more she realized she needed to tell him the truth. There was no way she could truly be with him until he knew who—or rather what—she really was. After all, she would continue to stay young, while he would grow old. So one day she showed him her true form, angelic wings and all.

He was awed and understandably afraid by what he witnessed. But then he told her he’d always known that there was something different about her. And that after knowing her, he was not completely surprised to discover that she was quite literally an angel. Most importantly, he loved her enough to still want to be with her. The two got married, and soon enough Nadia found herself with child. The day her baby daughter was born was the happiest day in her very long life. She realized that the blessing of a new life was the one thing the humans had and the angels lacked. And that it was an immensely beautiful gift. A feeling that she would not have been able to experience any other way.

However, not long after her daughter was born, another Seraphim came down to Earth in the middle of the night as Nadia was putting the baby to sleep. The angel told her that she had committed a carnal sin and subsequently created an aberration; the existence of a new being, a half human half angel. Her daughter. He proceeded to inform her that the baby could not be let to continue existing. He tried to persuade her to go back to heaven, saying that she’d be forgiven as long as she gave up the baby.

Faced with the threat of losing her daughter, Nadia forsook everything that she was by raising her sword against the other angel. The two fought and she ended up committing an unforgivable act; killing another angel. In that moment, as blood tainted her pure white sword, her wings turned dark as night. She had been cast out of heaven for good. She was now fallen.

For all that, her punishment didn’t end. Killing the angel had only been killing the messenger. In front of her eyes, both her daughter and Gabriel, who had come into the room upon hearing the commotion, vanished before her eyes. Erased from existence, just like that. As if they had never been there in the first place.

Bitterness filled her heart as she was now left with nothing else in this world. Unable to go home, and also unable to keep the happiness she had found here. No husband or daughter, no one to love. Her life had been an illusion after all. The devastation turned into apathy eventually, and she felt an odd kind of freedom once she decided not to care for anything at all. Now that she was fallen, she was free from all responsibilities, free from having to be good or helpful toward anyone. She could do anything she wanted.

And she damn well would.

Other Noteworthy Facts: Nadia moved to Raven’s Hollow three years ago, after finding the community feeling somewhat comfortable because she wasn’t among humans for a change. She could relate to them; as a refugee herself with nowhere else to go, the town seemed like the perfect place to settle in. Besides, there was constant chaos in Raven’s Hollow, and she enjoyed it, sometimes creating or participating in it herself.

She was a mercenary working for the highest bidder, for anyone looking to get shady things done but did not want to dirty their own hands. A notoriously opportunistic muscle-for-hire, everyone knew they could never trust her, because the only person she cared about was herself, and whoever paid her the most. However, she was also very good at covering her tracks and intimidating people, so even though a lot of people knew what she did, no one would testify to it and the law enforcement never had any clear evidence of her involvement in various crimes to do anything about her.

Universe Specific Information: The town of Raven's Hollow is not your ordinary city. It is filled with supernatural creatures; from werewolves to sirens, from angels to demons, from the ones haunting the humans' nightmares to the most beautiful dreams. It is one of the last refugees left for these creatures, which were quickly becoming extinct after being hunted by humans in various places out of fear that they would assert their superiority otherwise with their magical powers and abilities.

Species Information: Fallen angels are angels that have been cast out of heaven by committing an unforgivable sin, one of which being murdering another angel. An angel can only be killed by the blade of another angel, otherwise they are immortal and cannot die of old age. An easy way to differentiate between an angel and a fallen is by looking at their wings. An angel would have white wings while a fallen one would have black. All angels typically carry a sword as their weapon, though there are others who prefer other types of weapons. Fallen angels have sensitivity to blessed or sacred objects such as holy water - these objects will weaken and burn them. Once fallen from grace, an angel cannot ever return to heaven and is doomed to spend their time on earth.

Storyline Specific Information:
City of Shadows: Recently, a new unknown threat has appeared in Raven's Hollow. Some of the townspeople felt it when the new presence arrived. The more sensitive ones felt the ominous tingle of electricity in the air, others felt their dreams disturbed by a half-formed premonition. The seers knew an age of change was coming, but for the first time could not tell for sure what it was. As days went on, one by one the townspeople began to disappear, seemingly vanishing into thin air from various places. First, a fairy. Then, a warlock. After that, a vampire.

At first, the townspeople blamed each other. See, maintaining the peace between all the different clans and races in Raven's Hollow was no easy task, with some of them being natural-born enemies, and some who physically could not stand each other. But when the vanishings continued to take random creatures of all races, seemingly affecting all of them, they soon realized that this threat did not come from their own neighbors. It was something else entirely, perhaps something they had never encountered before. And if they would have any hope to fight it, they must, for the first time in their lives, learn to not only get along, but also work together.

RP Sample:

The half-empty glass sat on the table before her, cupped between her hands. Nadia stared at it unseeingly, feeling nothing in particular. There were very little to feel these days. It was a strange thing to go through; being propelled from one end of the spectrum to another. She remembered how it was being good—no, she hadn’t forgotten all of it at all—and yet she remembered it in this detached way, as if the memories belonged in a past life or someone else’s. She remembered caring for so many people so much. She remembered how loving her daughter had been all-consuming, and the way that love eventually drove her to this point. Apparently even too much love could turn out badly.

Well, now she didn’t have to worry about her daughter anymore. She was gone. It was ironic; she used to feel proud as a Seraphim. One of the great angels of heaven, one of the highest beings in the hierarchy of the world. Well, it turned out greatness wasn’t all it was cracked up to be, after all. And especially not when you’re good. It involves way too much responsibility and not enough real power.

How long had it been since she’d drank anything with alcohol, for instance? She’d been so busy being a responsible mother, she had forgotten what a good whiskey tasted like. Now the glass in her hand was all she needed to be happy. Life was so much simpler when you’re not constantly looking out after someone else. The aptly named Hellfire Tavern in Raven’s Hollow was quiet at this time of day, but Nadia had chosen it for a reason. After all, she might not be in actual hell (yet?), but she was pretty damn close.
