This year Halloween will be a bit low-key, because we have barely a week to get this show on the road!

Our goal is to have three (3) total events.

1. Forum Trick-or-Treating
   
2. Spooky Avatar Contest
   
3. Sailor Soldier Costume Contest
   
4. History of Halloween (+1 to 3 events)
   
5. Recommendations for Halloween-themed books, movies, etc. (+1 to 3 events)
   
6. Share your Halloween costumes, decor, etc. (+1 to 3 events)
   
7. Decorate an online pumpkin (+1 to 3 events)
   

I'm looking for suggestions! Try to keep them somewhat limited in scope. Save your biggest, most-complicated Halloween ideas for next year! I'd like to focus on things we can execute on quickly. ♥

I've added a few quick ideas to the list below, some of which I know we've done before. Please reply with your additional suggestions and/or thoughts on any from the list. Let's try to get ideas in today and tomorrow, so we can have time to keep planning.

Important Question: Should we kick things off Saturday, October 29 to give members the opportunity to enjoy the events over the weekend or start on Monday, October 31 when it's actually Halloween?

Halloween Event Ideas
• Pumpkin decorating contest (via dollmaker/etc.; winner voted on by forum members)

Description of event:

• Sailor soldier costume contest (via short answer writing, participants submit unique costume ideas for canon characters or a specific canon character and explain why they've chosen those; winner voted on by forum members)

Description of event:

• Spooky avatar contest
• Discord live chat "party"
• Streaming a movie
• Discord karaoke
• Build-it-as-you-go-one-word-at-a-time story
• Puzzle
• Crossword puzzle
• Word search
• History of Halloween (+1 to 3 events)
• Recommendations for Halloween-themed books, movies, etc. (+1 to 3 events)
• Share your Halloween costumes, decor, etc. (+1 to 3 events)

Personally I think we should start over the weekend rather than on the 31st, because I think that people will probably have more time enjoying them.

I'll add my thoughts to the idea list:

I think these are more time consuming, since we have to create Sign Ups and Votes. Even though it's Halloween themed, it would either feel rushed, or not like a "true Halloween Event" if you know what I mean.

• Livestream of spooky movie
• Halloween karaoke via Discord
• Discord chat live "party"

These shouldnt be too hard to set up and could be combined. I can't really decide between a Livestream or a Halloween Karaoke and I'd love to do both, but I think a Karaoke Night would be more intersting, since we have Livestreams a lot more often. But I'll leave that up to discussion since I don't know how interested others would be in this.
But I think it would be awesome to combine with a general Discord Party. Just have some people moderate the evening and the events, have some icebreakers and then have the Karaoke/Livestream as the main event.

That's true—anything with voting would need thread updates.

Some other quick ideas, which could be quickly generated via free online services:
• Crossword puzzle
• Word search
• Puzzle

These are all awesome ideas! I really like the one about the sailor senshi costume contest--though it would be somewhat time consuming, we could probably just limit it to one or two paragraphs to keep it short and sweet.

I think that it would be neat to create a thread about the history of Halloween, so everyone can learn more about the holiday! It's not an activity per say, but I think it still might be fun to have (and I volunteer myself to do it, unless someone else really wants to!). It also might be fun to create a thread dedicated solely to recommendations of Halloween themed books, movies, etc. from other members to help give people some ideas of how to get into the Halloween spirit.

Another thought on the Discord Stuff: If we're doing it, the planning would have to go pretty fast, since we would have to make an announcement for it a few days early.

Also I really love the new ideas! Are you planning to create a Section for Halloween? Because if we create a section for the small minigames and some general information we could make the event look bigger than it actually is, which should be a good thing.

Perhaps we could have one of those story things where each person types a sentence and makes a coherent Halloween story out of it? I'm not sure what it would be called but, that's the best I can describe it!

I like the "make a story" idea, as well! Those are silly and quick.

I planned to keep the event in a subforum of the event area. I wasn't sure where else it would make sense to place these.

I like the history thread idea, and would consider that a +1 to the "3 events". That way it won't look super bare.

If we decide to do livestream, I would volunteer my PC to run it. xD Unfortunately, I think the only day I can really do it is on Halloween and it would have to start around 8pm EST/7pm CST.

Maybe a post your costume thread? So its not really an event but a +1 like Mercury mentioned about the History thread idea?

But I really like the ideas! I think an Avatar Contest wouldn't be as much of an update thing as a Senshi Creator Contest. We could have the Sign Ups over the Weekend, and the actual vote on Halloween. Another idea would be to use a form to nominate spooky avatars, just like with the Awards during the Anni.

I think the "Share your Halloween Stuff" Threads could also be a thing beside the three events.

Also if we have a Livestream: Do we wanna select it, or let others vote on which Movie the Users wanna watch?

I think a "share your Halloween stuff" thread would be an easy +1, somewhat like the history suggestion.

It sounds to me like using a form to nominate spooky avatars would be nice, if we do an avatar contest.

As for a livestream, at this point I feel like letting users vote on a movie would add time to the process that we don't necessarily have. It would be easier to have us select it.

Well I know the Obaa club is planning a stream of a Halloween movie, maybe we could pick the second place choice from that poll?
