Say, when were these first relesed? I just bought a copy and it seemed smaller than the ones that are being relesed now. Also it's a paperback? I don't know much about the difrent releses Anyways back to the main topic:P I like both covers. They are each unique and diferent but if I had to choose I'd choose the new covers. The have an order to them that shifts my attention to them. |

| I love the covers of the most recent prints. <3 The old prints were nice, but I love how it's staying faithful/true to the original Japanese printed covers. * o * |

| @Juuhachi, as far as I know the releases have always been paper back. These books are bigger than the original Mixx/TokyoPop releases since they did the "pocketsize" manga (which was dumb because....they never fit in MY pockets. ) In Japan, these were first released in 2004 (my date could be wrong but i know it was like 04/05 or so) and we finally started getting the English releases last fall. |

| Ooooh. No. I'm not familiar with the Japanese versions, but I believe our releases are actually bigger than the Japanese ones. I want to say they had the color sleeves like that too for the Japanese, but I'm not 100% because I've never actually seen a Japanese volume other than scanned in covers on the online shops. |

| Hm, it looks to be legit. From reading around, it seems that most japanese manga have the cover flaps. Plus the image on mangastyle.net of the Japanese cover looks the same as far as the text goes, which means it isn't like a Chinese release version or something.
So I think you are good. ^^ |

| Well then if you say so, then I'm happy And if I could then I would also get my hands on the old ones too, they are beautiful, but they are too expensive for me. |

| I definitely prefer the old covers. They're so lively and creative... it feels like a lot of heart was really put into them. The new ones feel generic and bland, like they were just drawn to be sold. Which makes sense considering they were reprints, but still, Naoko's art in general has gone downhill imo. |

| It's weird, for me I enjoyed the old covers a lot more the first time I was reading it, but now I kind of like the new covers seeing all of the scouts in their Eternal forms. I like how each volume has a unique look to it depending on the different scout they have on it. |

| Definitely the newer mangas. They looked cleaner, the colors were brighter, and had a better pattern to them. |

| I honestly can't pick between the two. I honestly love them both but economically speaking I am going to vouch for the newer ones for now, once I can afford to buy the original ones and her art books I will start collecting original ones as well. |

| So the other day I was reading the reprinted manga when a thought crossed my mind when I looked over the cover art some more. It seems a lot less creative as the older cover art is. I mean, don't get me wrong, I do like the "freshness" of the new cover art and the chibi artwork, but it honestly feels like something is missing that was there with the original cover art.
Until you get to the specials, each cover art is basically a drawing of each senshi (minus vol. 1) in their eternal fuku with a random pose. It really is more like a character drawing verses a entire composition.
I don't know what was behind the decision to just draw individual characters on each volume, but it doesn't feel as if it "grew" with the manga as much as the original cover art did. If you look at the original cover art, it almost appears as if each volume had a composition of that particular time in that particular volume - basically the cover art grew with the storyline of the manga at that point, imo. The new cover art just feels as if a character was chosen random and put in their eternal fuku (with the exception of Sailor Moon and until you get to the specials).
While I do enjoy the new cover art, I just feel that it misses something that the original cover art had. |

| I was looking through my friends originals and well the binding was so sad and scary. I opened one of the SuperS mangas and the pages fell out easily. I panicked. I hope the new one's binding is decent enough to last us forever! |

Many of my Mixx/Tokoypop Sailor Moon manga are like that too. It's so difficult to read D': But back on topic~ I'm drawn to the new covers, especially the one with Neptune; she looks so pretty. I like the uniformity of the new covers and how they look like a series. However, I will always prefer the old covers. Naoko's art grew with the story, and I enjoyed to see not just in the story, but on the covers. The colours are so saturated and bright. |

| Definitely the new ones. I just love how crisp and clean they look. They're simple, pleasant to look at, and all follow the theme of representing one of the senshi on the cover. And I'll be the first one to say that I really do like Naoko's newer art style. I don't find it more "generic" at all, just an improvement of what's quite clearly her own unique style. The old covers always looked a bit... messy to me. Not saying I don't like Naoko's art, I really do, but it just looks like they grabbed one of her pictures and slammed it on as a cover. Like many have already said, it doesn't flow very well, while the new ones you can really feel they were made to be covers. And then there's the title which is (on the Japanese covers) written in this huge sort of 3D-ish font... no thank you. |

| The old covers are gorgeous and unique. But I prefer the new ones. There's a sort of symmetry within all of them that makes it feel like a whole set. With the original covers, although beautiful, they don't have that same feeling.

| Let me just join on in this thread.... I like the olds one better. I can totally understand the change just to give it a better look and keep up with the new generation but something about old anime artwork makes me happy. Maybe it's just the style. |

| Well, I'm personally a bit tied on this question. The shinsoban covers looks all quite the same and give a feeling of "well organisation" of the serie. The covert art itself stays true to the spirit of the serie, but on the other end, the other covers are way more diversified, and we at least get to see Mamoru on a cover :B As for what there is inside each editions, it was nice to be able to read Takeuchi sensei's little notes in the original, but their absense in the shinsoban somehow help keeping a more consistent rythm in the reading of the serie.
\o/ But Takeuchi-sensei's art will always be awesome. |

| I think the new ones are the best and most marketable, but being such a big fan I personally LOVE the old ones. I love Naoko's artwork and I wish I had all of the slim comic ones so that I could sit and stare at them all day. (I have three, luckily ) But the fact that the new ones are all bright and go together just makes more sense for marketing purposes, especially if someone were to see them in a store not knowing what Sailor Moon is (I pray there are VERY few people who don't know who she is). People just aren't into paper artwork as much now-a-days, especially in the consumer world :p I do love how the new ones each feature a character, though. I wish the old ones did that. |

Nope, those are legit. I own half the series in Japanese new editions and they have the paper covering like that and are smaller than ours. I can't figure out why ours are so big anyway. Those are 100% legit. A lot of times Japanese mana will have that paper cover but when released in North America, they will get rid of the sleeves. As for the size, they were converted to a larger format to fit the size of a regular paperback book, I believe. And I definitely like the new covers better, they're bright and colorful and fun and uniform. It definitely catches the eyes and I'm sure there are new fans who picked up the manga for the first time because of the nice new covers |
