| Madman announced sometime ago that they were releasing the new Viz dub for Australians, but then delayed their release in order to give fans the best quality they could. It appears they have gotten their hand on the Italian masters, which has always been superior in quality. Their pre-orders for Part 1 (Episode 1-24) of the first season are now finally open. Here are some places you can order it from: JB Hi-fi Madman Mightyape Please note that prices are either in AUSD or NZD. Here are some comparison pictures of the Australian quality vs American quality: Australian Version Viz VersionAs you can see the pillarboxing doesn't exist in the Australian version and their picture is sharper. You can't even see that it's raining in the US Viz version. The episodes are from a new encode done by Madman themselves, completely UNTOUCHED and straight from the original source. It includes both Japanese and English dubs, along with English subtitles. Source: https://www.facebook.com/SailorMoonCenter2010/ I personally have preordered the Australian DVDs and will continue buying them. Kind of glad I waited! |

| The Australian set looks really great. I'm glad to have the Viz set but I don't know why they couldn't have delayed it too if it meant we got higher quality masters. |

| It definitely is sharper. I wish VIZ would do the same for the American version. I mean isn't Viz an AMERICAN company? |

| I wonder why they didn't remove the boxes? Is it hard to do or? |

I'm not sure what being an American company has to do with it. They didn't get the good masters that the Australians did. The Australian version is released by Madman, a different company. - Cosmos-Hime wrote:

They actually had to add those boxes because Sailor Moon used to air on TV and the aspect ratio of TV is different from widescreen DVDs. |

I'm just saying that since they are an American company shouldn't they have better releases for American fans, cause I do know for a fact that for R part 2, the disc wasn't working and the images were skewed. That made a lot of fans complain. |

I wonder why they didn't have to do that for the re-releases for the Australian market. Did tvs have different ratios in another country or what? I thought TV aspect ratios were based on manufacturing by company, and not per country. Huh. Now I'm probably overthinking things. |

Well that's a critic on VIZ as a company in general, as Madman is also an Australian company providing an Australian release. I don't believe VIZ releases any product outside of America either so it doesn't really matter that they're American. They just didn't do do a good enough job with these Sailor Moon releases in particular. Not sure how they do with other anime. - Cosmos-Hime wrote:

From the screenshots it looks like Madman simply kept the original aspect ratio and didn't try to turn it into widescreen at all. Not sure how it works on a DVD player, I'll check when I get my copies. |

| I received my DVDs in the mail! Here is a comparison shot: Australian DVDMy previous Japanese DVD copyThe colors are more vivid on the Australian one. They've also kept the original size, so it's just not widescreen. |

| They've now released the DVDs up until Sailor Moon R Part 2 (all selections can be found here).
Personally I still very much recommend this copy since it's definitely superior in quality to the Viz American release. |

That made a lot of fans complain. When you encode for Blu-Ray, you have to convert it to 1080p widescreen. That's why they added the pillarboxes. And then they forgot to undo it when they converted it back for the DVD release. One of the many ways Viz is flubbing their Sailor Moon release and not owning up to it. If I was their boss, so many people would've been fired by now lol I'm just waiting for pre-orders to go up now for Sailor Moon S. |
