Relaxed Character Profile
Character Name: Phineas Azariah Maxwell AKA Mr. Cogs
Gender: Male
Age: 36
Character Image:
- Phineas:
- Rough idea of mask:
Phineas would be a handsome young man with short blonde hair and a sharp angular face, except for a birth mark blemish that turns his forehead and cheek on one side a dark red. He has skin pigmentation spots all over his body, arms, and legs. It was a birth defect of unknown origin. There is nothing wrong with his skin except that the skin pigment is different. Besides that he cuts a tall figure at almost 6 feet tall. He dresses impeccably. Due to the facial defect, he often goes out wearing a copper mask over half of his face. On it are all sorts of gears and a watch-clock face that tells accurate time. The steady ticking of the clock parts near his ear is a sound he finds reassuring.
Personality Traits: Phineas is very high strung and obsessive compulsive. He also exhibits almost bi-polar tendencies as his emotions can rail from furious anger to euphoria very quickly. He is also extremely driven and can focus in on a single thought or intention beyond all else. He loves clocks, and the precision they offer. To him, they make more sense, and are more reliable than humans.
Storyline Specific Information: Peril & Petticoats: Set in a Steampunk alternate London – Phineas goes by the nickname Mr. Cogs. He is the main villain in the story and is set on world domination through his clockwork army of strange inventions. He has two other allies, a mad doctor and a woman who is quite skilled in the use of chemicals.
Additional Information: Phineas’ father was a clockmaker who was talented in his trade. Because of his birth defect, as a child he had a hard time making friends and was constantly teased. So he would spend countless hours at first watching his father work, and later tinkering with his own devices that ran on gears and clockwork precision. Whenever he would become upset, he would run home and just sit with his ear to the clocks, listening to the ticking and tocking like a heartbeat.
As a teenager he fell in love with a young girl who brought a pocket watch in to be repaired. He waited for her to return for the watch and then approached her, declaring his admiration for her beauty. Instead she screamed and ran. He would face several more heartbreaks every time he opened up and tried to reach out to people. Lastly, when his father died, he tried to take over the shop but no one would come to it, as rumors began to spread that he had some sort of communicable disease. It was the last straw. If he could not fit into their world, he would make their world into his. Falling back on his love of mechanical clockwork machines, he built an underground lair and began experimenting with weapons and ways to take over London, ridding it of the human mess, and populating it with his clockwork beings.
RP Sample: That damnable clock tower had thrown him off. According to his count it was actually running fifteen seconds late. Could no one build a clock these days? He was surprised the entire town did not come crashing down to its knees with such inaccuracies. He scowled as he forced himself to walk faster. This could ruin his reputation. Mr. Cogs was never late. He was always precisely on time. He felt his breathing becoming more rapid. Veins began to pulse in his face.”I am going to destroy that clock someday…” he nearly growled the promise out between his teeth.
“You’re late Mr. Cogs.” Came a bemused female voice.
Due to the brisk walk he had arrived only five seconds late, but he could still see the amusement in her eyes. He scowled, staring fiercely out at her from behind the half-mask. “Never, ever say those words to me again.”
