| Welcome to the September Writing Challenge! What's a writing challenge, you ask? Writing challenges are when I give you prompts or specific guidelines you must adhere to in your writing or give you specific goals to reach and everyone who manages to do the task successfully is a winner. This isn't a contest, so no one will be voting or choosing winners. Everyone is a winner! Isn't that awesome? Well, as long as you meet the goal anyways. This month, our theme is.... *drumroll* Angst, Angst, and More Angst! Stealing yet another writing meme/prompt from Tumblr, I have a list of dialogue lines that you must include in your story. Pick one line per story, please. I have edited some items slightly to comply with the PG-13 rule. You can do as many lines as you want. The only other requirement is your story needs to be have a theme of angst. And of course, keep all stories PG-13. Below are the lines of dialogue: “I just really need to have you here right now.” “Didn’t you see what I did?!” “Oh damn it, DAMN IT.” “Please come get me.” “Where are you?!” “I’m coming, just sit tight!” “Look at me - just breathe, okay?” “I can’t breathe!” “You don’t have to stay.” “It’s all my fault.” “It’s all YOUR fault!” “Don’t you dare touch me.” “Please I just… really need space right now.” “I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere.” “I’m gonna be sick.” “Ever wonder if the world would be better off without you… ?” “I’m sick of being USELESS.” “You’re not useless.” “Are you bleeding?!” “Please, put it DOWN.” “Shh, c’mere…” “It’s okay to cry…” “Don’t listen to them. Don’t you EVER listen to them.” “I’m not cut out for this.” “Just leave me ALONE.” “Please listen to me-” “You can trust me.” “Don’t trust me.” “What happened doesn’t change anything.” There is no maximum word limit, and the minimum is 300 words. Please don't forget to bold the line you have chosen in your story. Have fun! Everyone who posts a piece that meets the outlined guidelines above will win the challenge! And when you have won enough challenges, you got these awesome bumpers! So what are you waiting for? Get writing! You have until September 30th, 2015 to post your story.

| *Deep breath* I chose to write about my OC senshi to get deeper into her persona. Phew, turned into a long one. OK, here goes! ^^ - Story:
If she hadn’t stayed out for an extra sparring session, she never would have seen the fireball. It was early. Only two of the three suns had risen and the subdued glow turned everything a shade of pink. The sound of clashing swords and quarterstaffs echoes I the large courtyard as old guards trained new guards and Ciaran trained her.
“You’re not focused Desert Rose! You need to look at all angles. An opponent is not going to sit calmly in front of you and throw attacks!” He chided, pulling out a sneak attack with his staff that had thrown her off balance enough that she landed, rather ungracefully, on her rear end.
Letting out a sigh of frustration, she began clambering to her feet. She rolled her eyes, looking up to the sky as she tried to release the frustration she felt at always falling for his sneak attacks. Her eyes widened to green pools. There was something in the sky and it was moving. It was large, fiery, and descending at a rapid rate. Her stomach churned as she realized it was heading straight for the castle. The practice staff fell from her hands, clattering onto the ground with what sounded like an ear splitting thud. There were muffled cries now from the other trainees but they were too slow…far too slow in reacting.
With a strangled cry she leapt to her feet and began to really and truly run, pushing her feet as fast as she could until the blood pounded in her ears and her breath was a raging fire in her lungs. She knew where her sister was. She was in the side room off from the throne room preparing herself for a clan meeting. There was no way she would see it coming. Desert Rose tore into the palace, shoving people in the direction of the door as she ran. As she reached the small side office she only had time to scream her sisters’ name and throw the princess to the ground, shielding her sister with her body as the roof caved in with an earth shattering roar and the crackling of flames. They tumbled, as the floor below also gave way and Desert Rose felt her body slam into something hard and everything went black.
“Eirinn…” came a whispered, tentative voice. “Eirinn?” The soft voice drifted in the void contrasting oddly with the silence. It became more insistent. “Eirinn!”
She opened her eyes, wondering dazedly why this voice knew her name, her real name. Her eyes were open, yet she could not see anything. Reaching up a hand, she felt hard stone just a foot or so above her head. Realization came swiftly. The attack…Aya! Squirming around despite her body’s painful protests she turned on to her stomach and reached her arms out, flailing and feeling around with quick desperate motions. “Aya….Aya I’m here! Are you alright?”
A pair of smooth hands caught hers, squeezing hard. “Oh, thank the suns! I was so afraid you were going to leave me alone down here…” The voice of her sister cracked with emotion. “I am alright, but I think I am pinned. I – I’m sure rescue will come soon.”
Eirinn wrapped her hand around the stone around her neck. If she focused hard enough in it, it would emit a soft glow. The soft rose colored glow was enough to let her eyes adjust. Apparently transformed, her body must have absorbed the majority of the heat and protected her from the stones coming down. She had bruises on her arms at least and a myriad of other places were sore. Somehow in the process she had de-transformed but she did not feel any serious injury and she could move, not that there was much room to move around. She slipped the necklace off and reached forward with the glowing stone to look at her sister. It did appear that she was partly pinned, at least by the edges of the pink silk dress sticking out of the stone, but Eirinn was relieved to hear her sister was unharmed.
“Eirinn…you’re bleeding!” Eirinn’s sister reached out a hand to touch her forehead, her fingertips coming away with drops of blood. The look of worry on her sister’s face made Eirinn’s heart skip a beat. Her sister, who was always so kind and calm, so graceful like a true princess should never have that worried look.
Eirinn smiled. She would do or say anything to make that worried look flee from her sister’s eyes. She chuckled. “You think this is bleeding? We used to get worse when we climbed the thorny aoco trees back home to get the sweet fruits, remember? A little cut like this is nothing.” Didn’t her sister realize? It’s my job to bleed for you, whether you like it or not Aya. It’s my job if necessary even to die for you. How am I going to manage that when you can’t even stand to see me get a cut? She blinked, pushing the disturbing thought of her sister someday seeing her dead out of her mind.
“Hold on, let me see if I can get us out of here.” Putting the necklace back on, she spoke the words to transform, feeling the familiar warmth flow through her, even pushing away most of the soreness she as feeling. Calling the sword into her hand, she let the soft light of the crystal glint off of the metal, illuminating more of the space they were trapped in. It was elongated, narrow, and not very tall. They were surrounded by rubble, some scorched. There did not seem to be any openings, which made her wary about air supply. She let out a sigh of resignation, realizing she would not be able to use any of her attacks in this small space without jeopardizing their lives. Because of the tight space she also would not have a lot of leverage to swing her sword, but it was the only thing she could try.
Working her way back onto her back, she made several slashes at the rubble in front of her, putting all of the strength she had into it, though her arm did not have far to swing to build up momentum. Pieces of small pebbles and debris rained down on her, forcing her to close her eyes and swing blindly. But the majority of it was not giving. This was heavy stone that has supported the palace for many, many years. She let out a yell of frustration and swung out blindly over and over again until her arms ached and burned, finally forcing her to stop out of sheer exhaustion.
“Eirinn, calm down. I’m sure rescue will come soon, don’t worry.”
Finally letting out a resigned sigh, she turned over again, making one final cut to free her sister’s dress. At least she could do that much. She gave the stone above her one last punch, the feeling of helplessness finally sinking in. Her sister was trying to reassure her, and Eirinn decided to put her faith in her sister’s words. Surely everyone above was trying to dig though to find their princess. It was just a matter of time. “I know. There may not be very much air in here, so we should sit quietly for now.”
Aya scooted a bit closer to her until their faces almost touched. They talked for a while about old memories and childhood until their mouths became dry and they feel silent. Their eyes began to nod in and out. Finally Aya spoke again.
“Eirinn, do the bonds of this duty ever chafe?”
“What? Aya, what do you mean?” Eirinn noted there were tears lining her sister’s eyes.
“I mean, do you ever wish I wasn’t the princess, and you weren’t First Sister…or do you ever wish that maybe…you were not my sister….so you could live a free life of your own?”
Eirinn’s eyes opened wide in shock. “Why would you say such a thing?! I would never, ever wish to have another sister no matter what the consequences. What would put that thought into your head?”
“Well….sometimes I think…if something ever happened to you….it would be all my fault, because of who I am. I don’t want to lose you Eirinn.”
Eirinn seized her sister’s hand with hers. “I am not going anywhere Aya. I don’t have any regrets. We may not have chosen our circumstances, but I am glad that our paths can run together. Don’t you think I feel the same? I want you to have a nice, happy, peaceful life with no worries to furrow your brow or make you cry.”
Her sister laughed. “Why are you trying to make me feel better? That’s a big sister’s job. I should be trying to comfort you. But….Eirinn…I’m scared.”
It was the faintest whisper, but Eirinn replied, “Me too…” as she squeezed her sister’s hand. She was beginning to feel a little dizzy. They were definitely running low on air. “Save your breath Aya, there is little air. We have to conserve.” She whispered. She knew that at least, in her senshi form, she would be mostly protected from the lack of oxygen. Eirinn had even heard that senshi can survive in space, though she had never tried it and had no desire to do so. She called upon the heart of Aran Cara once more, embracing the warmth of her planet’s power again. She deliberately slowed her breathing then, closing her eyes and simply focusing on the warmth she felt from the stone around her neck. It was almost trance-like, bathing in the small warmth. She would save as much air as possible for her sister.
She did not know how much time had gone by, but she could hear her sister’s breathing was becoming more ragged. One look told her Aya was clammy and seemed paler than she had before.
She shook her sister’s shoulder a bit. “Aya, hold on. You just have to wait for the rescuers. They are coming.” She said the last bit with firmness in her voice.
Aya’s eyes fluttered open slightly. “E-Eirinn”, she said through gasping breaths. “I’m scared….I…I can’t….I can’t breathe! Eirinn….help…” Her eyes closed again. Her breathing had become even shallower and less regular.
Panic flooded through Eirinn, her pulse roaring through her ears. “Aya…no, don’t do that. Stay awake Aya!” She began to pound her fists on the rubble again, screaming out as loud as she could for help. She stopped, from time to time, to check on her sister, finding herself counting the times her sister’s chest rose and fell. She shook her sister gently, but her eyes did not open. A noise startled her, and a small piece of stone fell, hitting her on the head. She turned over to see what had fallen. There was now a small home going up into the rubble. She narrowed her eyes, unsure if it was simply a trick or if she did in fact see a tiny pinpoint of light in there. Sure it was light from outside, she became frantic now. Eirinn scraped and pulled at the rocks, clawing and straining her fingers to pry them loose, and they were coming, piece by slow piece. Her fingers bled from the constant friction against the rough stone, but still she clawed her way through, calling out to her sister the entire time.
It was small, but she could finally feel a gust of fresh air on her face. “Aya! I can see the light. It looks beautiful Aya. We’re going to be out in no time!” She pulled her sister closer to her, and closer to the small opening. Her sister did not respond, her chest barely moving. She was limp in Eirinn’s arms.
“No, nononono No Aya, you have to breathe. You have to!” Tears welled up in her eyes as she tried her best to bring her sister’s mouth up to the opening, shaking her. “You can’t go like this Aya. You’re the reason I am here. Without you…I…Come on…..come on Aya! Aya!” Her voice was almost a shriek now as she screamed her sister’s name.
She could now hear noises above her. They were close, but she realized they would be too late once again. She wrapped her arms around her limp sister, sobbing and screaming. Eirinn had never imagined it like this. She was supposed to outlive Aya, protecting her to the end of her days until they were old women. With one last desperate effort, she shook her sister’s shoulder and heard a small gasp. Eirinn’s eyes widened. In slow, halting, shallow bursts, her sister was drawing the cool air into her lungs. At the same time, she could hear voices above her calling for the princess.
“That’s it Aya, just keep breathing.” She told her sister, feeling new tears roll down her cheeks. “We’re down here!” she cried out at the top of her lungs, knowing that rescue was imminent. The rescuers above began pulling bits of rubble free, opening up the small gap in the stones slowly more and more. Light was not cascading down onto her sister’s ash stained face, making her look somehow oddly more beautiful.
“E-Eirinn…look at that light. Isn’t it beautiful?” came the faint voice of her sister.
“It is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen” Eirinn replies, embracing her sister while tears of joy fell like raindrops before a rainbow.

| LOL if you're in doubt, just ask yourself, are there people crying? If the answer is yes it's angsty enough xD
But there can totally be angst pieces without crying too. Just so long as it tugs on your heartstrings~ |

“Mamo-chan,” Usagi smiled through her tears. “Didn’t you see what I did?!” Her voice was so proud, even though it was shaky.
“I saved the world. I saved everyone,” she announced, opening her arms as if presenting the entire world to him. In the distance, new light bathed the previously darkened city, and everywhere people were beginning to wake up, disoriented and confused but fine. Healthy. Alive.
The sun was beginning to rise, and the world was at peace once more. Sailor Moon stood bruised and battered, but victorious. Her odango had come partially undone, her hair almost all flying free in the wind. It was an odd sight to say the least.
She fell to the ground, exhausted.
“Mamo-chan… did you see?” she whispered, her hand finding his. She gazed at his beautiful face, his gentle smile.
The giant jagged crystal protruding from his torso.
Usagi knelt beside his body and pressed her forehead to his. If she did not glance at the lower part of his body, she could pretend he was alright.
For a moment more, at least.
“I was brave,” she continued, softly. “It was really hard… but I did it. Are you proud of me, Mamo-chan?”
Today she had faced the hardest moment in her life. In all the battles she had been through, the decision she had made today was the toughest.
Her enemy had not only hold Mamoru hostage, had not simply killed or brainwashed him. He had toyed with his life. Literally made it hang in the balance. He had set Mamoru up in a trap and made her choose.
Choose to save the world by obliterating the enemy’s source of power and essentially sign her beloved’s death sentence, or let the world be taken over while she attempted to figure out how to save him from the death trap. Maybe if her senshi were still with her… maybe she could have attempted to do both.
But as it was, she had been alone and she was running out of time. There was not a lot of time to think.
In the past, she had caused the death of her entire kingdom when she chose Endymion.
This time, she had chosen to save the world.
It felt like redemption. |

| Haruka sat up and got out of bed, slowly pulling her clothes back on.
Behind her, Michiru lay still and silent on the mattress, watching her.
“What happened doesn’t change anything,” Haruka said tonelessly.
Michiru’s calm expression did not change. “Of course,” she stated matter-of-factly.
Fully covered again, Haruka turned to look at her. “We’re still doing it tonight.”
This time Michiru blinked. “You don’t want to—?”
“No,” Haruka cut her off briskly. “I want you—us—as my last memory.”
“In that case, maybe we could make some more to remember.”
Haruka smirked. “Michiru.” Her voice was firm. Unshaken. “We’re still doing it tonight.”
Michiru remained quiet, then finally nodded.
Later that same night, the two of them sat face-to-face in their senshi forms, silent and unmoving. Waiting for anything and nothing.
Uranus stared at Neptune. “I am ready.”
Neptune’s gaze hardened, just barely. Her façade remained unbroken for the most part, but her hand trembled ever so slightly as she extended it.
She put her palm on Uranus’ chest, and her touch turned gentle.
Uranus’s expression became stern. “Neptune,” she chided.
For a moment, Neptune’s eyes grew serious. Her hand clutched around Uranus’ bow, but after a few long tense moments, she dropped it. “I can’t,” she said.
“What?” Uranus demanded in disbelief.
“I can’t,” Neptune closed her eyes and shook her head sadly. “Not if it’s you.”
“But it’s our mission,” Uranus stated as if that was enough of an argument.
When Neptune’s eyes reopened, they were ever so slightly glassy. “But I care about—I lo—”
“Stop.” Uranus’s voice was commanding and loud, echoing around the room. She glared at Neptune. “I don’t want to hear it.”
“Well, maybe you should. It might change your mind.”
“No.” Uranus grabbed Neptune’s hand and forcefully put it back on her chest. “Do it, Neptune.”
“No.” Neptune was just as defiant now. “I won’t. Haruka, listen—”
“Then I’ll just have to make you do it.”
With that, she pressed the button on the bracelet around Neptune’s hand—the gift she had been given by Pluto for this exact purpose—and plunged Neptune’s fist into her chest with incredible speed.
They both screamed at the same time.
The bracelet’s power allowed Neptune’s hand to go through and, once it did, it forced her fingers to clutch around Uranus’ heart crystal.
Her talisman.
“NO!” Neptune cried, feeling her hand began literally pulling Uranus’ heart out. Uranus’ scream of pain was tearing Neptune’s own heart into shreds. “How could you make me do this?!” she shrieked, fighting her own hand every step of the way even as she remembered what Pluto had said.
Be careful. Once the process is started, it is irreversible.
They were supposed to be sure about this. She was supposed to be sure.
“I don’t want this!” Tears flowed freely from Neptune’s eyes as her grip tightened, holding that bright shining crystal in her fist securely. “Haruka!” she cried, horrified by the twisted expression of agony in Uranus’ face. Her tortured scream was going to haunt Neptune for the rest of her life. “HARUKA!”
“Michiru, I—” Uranus’ voice was barely audible. Just when Neptune thought she was going to hear what she was about to say—
A bright light, then a powerful yank. A horrifying sound.
Neptune fell backwards, hard. The room was suddenly plunged into darkness again.
She raised her fisted hand, trembling.
This was what she was left with:
A dark and quiet room.
A corpse at her feet.
And a gleaming heart crystal with unrivaled shine in her fist.
Neptune screamed, and screamed. |

| “Look at me—just breathe, okay?” Jupiter’s eyes were so warm, so comforting. So familiar. So full of life.
How was that possible?
“I can’t—I can’t,” Mercury felt her breath hitching, her lungs struggling to inhale enough oxygen as if there weren’t enough in the air. She was shaking. Her heartbeat was deafening in her ears and she felt faint.
“Mercury. Ami-chan,” Jupiter said again, in a more determined tone.
The use of her name made Mercury focus on those green eyes. So loving. So patient. So fierce.
“You have… to protect Usagi,” Jupiter ground out. “We’re not supposed to be gone for more than five minutes. You need to take her to the next shelter.”
“I can’t.” Tears blurred Mercury’s eyes. “I can’t do this. Not without you.”
“Of course you can,” Jupiter insisted. She grabbed Mercury’s hand and squeezed it. Tight. Impossibly still so powerful and reassuring. “You’re the smartest one, Ami-chan. You can do anything.”
“But I’m the weakest,” Mercury sobbed. “I’m not strong like your or Mars. I’m not as quick as Venus, I-I can’t, she’ll—”
“You have to,” Jupiter’s hand around hers tightened. “Ami-chan. You’re the only one left.”
“No,” Mercury shook her head. “I can fix this. I can fix you.”
Liar, the red blinking warning sign on her visor seemed to say.
Jupiter smiled sadly. “No, Ami-chan. You can’t. Not because you aren’t good enough, but…” she let the sentence hung for a moment or two. “…I am so very tired. I am too broken.”
“Don’t leave me.” Now she was downright pleading. She lowered her forehead to Jupiter’s shoulder, ignoring the torn sleeves, the blood, the scratches. “I can’t do this alone. Why am I the last one? What good am I when everyone who’s stronger have fallen?”
“You are the one who will save her.”
Mercury felt Jupiter’s gentle hand on the back of her head and cried for every touch she would no longer feel. For every warmth she would yearn for from this day on.
“Ami-chan.” Her voice was weaker now. “Breathe.”
Mercury tried. She tried so hard. Long gasps, short ones. The panic would not go away. The fear clutched her heart like its most treasured possession.
“Use your knowledge. Save Usagi-chan,” Jupiter said gently. “I need you to promise me.”
Mercury said nothing, just continued crying silently.
“Ami,” Jupiter repeated, dropping the honorific completely.
It was at this moment that Mercury finally felt like she was catching her breath.
“I need you to promise me. To not give up.”
Mercury took a deep, ragged breath, and nodded. “Of course. I won’t. I will protect Usagi-chan until the end.”
“Good.” Seeming satisfied, Jupiter slowly closed her eyes.
“No, Mako-chan, don’t—”
“I love you,” the last line was barely a whisper. “I always did.”
Then Jupiter’s body powered down, and the world was suddenly so very silent, the comforting hum that used to fill Mercury’s ear gone forever. |

| She should have been able to stop herself.
Makoto was at the park, practicing her martial arts. She had selected the thickest tree trunk that she could find, and used it like a target for her punches and kicks. Over and over again, she struck it, ignoring the flashes of pain in her knuckles and feet, and even the rain that settled over the area. Who cared if she was a little uncomfortable?
"There you are!" Rei said from behind her. She looked annoyed as she stood under a large umbrella, shielding her from the weather. "We were calling your communicator and you weren't picking up. What are you doing out here?" Makoto ignored her.
She wasn't sure how long she had spent training, getting soaked as she tirelessly punched the tree, but she didn't feel like stopping now. She had to get better.
Rei's eyes narrowed, and she got closer to her. "Come on, Mako. Stop messing around, a storm's coming." She kept punching, silent. "Makoto!" Rei grabbed her arm, and she froze. "What's wrong with you?" she asked, her tone bordering on angry. Mako strained against her for a moment, and then relaxed, letting her arm fall.
"I hurt her..." she mumbled.
"What?"
"I said that I hurt her!" Rei almost jumped at her yell. "She...she was right in front of me, and I couldn't do anything..." The moment still repeated in her head, showing the bolt of lighting striking Sailor Moon directly in the back, and then her scream of pain. And all she could do was stand there as Mercury and Venus shoved past her to check on the senshi who was collapsed on the ground. The scream was still stuck in her ears, even hours later.
Rei watched as Makoto slumped down to sit against the tree trunk, resting her back on it and pulling her knees up. She couldn't see her eyes behind her wet bangs, and Rei's expression softened.
"Usagi is fine, you know..." she said, moving to hold the umbrella above her. Mako was still completely soaked, but at least it wouldn't worsen now. "Ami cleaned up her back and bandaged it, and now she's reading manga in my room."
"We're supposed to protect her, and I couldn't even do that right." She shivered, as if the weather had just registered with her.
"It was an accident, no one blames you for anything."
"It doesn't matter. If I'd been paying more attention, it wouldn't have happened."
"Mako, we've all gotten in each other's way before"-
“Please I just… really need space right now.” Her voice cracked, and she bit back an audible sob. Rei caught a glimpse of her reddened eyes, and decided to let her be.
"...Okay. But Usagi really wants you to come over, and Minako and Ami were worried about where you went." Rei turned to walk away. "If you can find the time, meet us there, alright?" As she left, Makoto looked up at her, rubbing the rain and the tears out of her eyes. Usagi still liked her? Se didn't know why or how any of them could still want a brute like her around, but...she didn't want to cause them any more trouble today.
Makoto slowly stood up, and walked back towards her apartment. If she was going over to the shrine, she needed dry clothes and an umbrella.
She didn't really deserve that kind of friendship, but she appreciated it all the same. |

| I was aiming for 400 words...and I came out with three times that amount at the end I fail at being succinct!
A bed of anemone bloomed in the palace garden, a blanket of white interspersed by splashes of red blossoms like drops of blood in a field of snow.
Lady Serenity squeezed her eyes shut at the sight of the flowers as tears rolled down her cheeks.
The late afternoon air was warm, but she wrapped her arms around herself as she shivered at the memories from the day before.
Pristine white robes stained crimson, her gloves damp with freshly split blood…
Feeling a wave of nausea welling up in her stomach, Lady lowered herself onto a marble bench and sobbed helplessly.
“Lady?”
The princess opened her blurred eyes and saw the outline of her father’s familiar figure standing a few paces behind her. Seeing her pale, tear-stained face, the king—in two quick strides—closed the distance between them and wrapped his arm around his daughter’s shoulders.
Lady nestled her cheek on the lapel of his tuxedo, and they sat like this for some time until her sobs subsided. When the shivering in her limbs finally eased, she wiped at her eyes and whispered hoarsely, “Is…he okay?”
Endymion nodded as his hand stroked Lady’s head in reassurance.
“Mercury said the wound is deep, and he’s lost a lot of blood, but thanks to Saturn’s quick actions, the wound was closed in time. He’s still unconscious, but Mercury expects no major complications.”
Curled up in her father’s warm embrace, Lady raised a hand to her chest. “If only I had been stronger, then Chaos wouldn’t have awakened, and Helios wouldn’t have…”
Behind her half-lidded eyes, Lady recalled the battle from the day before. Her mother had been placed in a deep sleep by a spell cast by Chaos’ henchman. With no one to challenge her, the newly awakened Sailor Chaos had revealed herself to the world by razing an entire district of Crystal Tokyo.
The Sailor Quartet had charged at her, but they had been tossed aside like rag rolls by the energy generated from a simple flick of her wrist.
Lady, as Neo Sailor Moon, had confronted Sailor Chaos with her Pink Moon Crystal, but its power was not enough, and she too was tossed back, her wand knocked out of her hand.
As Chaos gloated over her, ready to deliver the killing blow with her sword, Helios had appeared between them, and the blow that was meant for her had instead landed across his chest. Had Saturn not found a way to undo the spell on Neo Queen Serenity in time for her to unleashed the full power of the Silver Crystal, Lady was certain she and Helios would have both met their end by the blade of Chaos’ sword.
“He would’ve been safe in the Palace…If only I had been stronger…” Lady whispered. “I wanted to protect him, this city, and everyone that lives here…but I’ve let everyone down…”
Endymion sighed, and looked up at the crescent moon that had appeared in the early evening sky. “I can understand Helios’ feelings, Lady…it was something he felt he must do, no matter the consequence to himself,” the king replied softly.
Endymion turned to his daughter, who looked at him in confusion. He reached out and brushed a stray strand of hair from her face. “I can feel Helios’ spirit stirring. I expect he will be awake soon. It would comfort him if he sees you when he comes to.”
Hearing this, Lady’s eyes opened wide. Gathering her skirts in one hand, she gave her father one uncertain look before running back into the palace.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
The room Lady was led into was quiet and in a remote part of the Palace. It was a perfect location for a hospital, but the silence made the uncertainty in Lady’s mind ring all the louder as she stepped into the clean, white room and her eyes fell on its inhabitant.
The last time she had seen Helios the white of his robe and hair had been stained red with his own blood. Lady vaguely remembered cradling his bloodied body in her arms as Saturn attempted to seal the wound with her healing power. What she clearly remembered was the sound of his labored, painful breaths in her ear, and the warmth of his blood on her gloved hands.
Now he lay before her, his eyes closed. His chest rose and fell rhythmically and inaudibly, and his blood-splattered clothes were gone, replaced by a set of new white gown beneath the equally pale sheets.
Mercury drew up a chair for the princess, and after a few quiet words and instructions, Mercury withdrew from the room.
Alone together, Lady touched her hand to his, and slowly, Helios’ eyelids fluttered open, and he blinked at the figure next to him.
“Lady…are you all right?”
The princess nodded. “Helios, I’m fine…” she paused as a lump seemed to have lodge in her throat, but she continued, “…thanks to you.”
Helios winced as he tried to turn to look more fully at her, but the wound on his chest restricted his movement. Seeing this, Lady stood up and sat down on the bed next to him.
Now that he was able to see her face clearly, Helios grimaced at the signs of tears still visible on Lady’s face. “I’ve made you cry again, haven’t I? I’m so sorry for being useless…”
Lady started at those words and she shook her head vehemently. “What are you saying? You saved my life! You’re not useless. If anyone is to blame, it should be me!”
Helios gave her a sad smile. “Lady, I don’t have any powers like you. I am a mere priest; we are not gifted with the powers that Sailor Guardians have. I know my presence in battle would only be a hindrance to you, but when I saw Chaos raise her sword against you, all I could think of was getting between you and her…”
Lady shook her head. “I’m the one who’s useless, Helios! I couldn’t stop Chaos from hurting you!”
The princess’ red eyes turned away and she said with shame, “Had it not been for Mama, Chaos would’ve won. I’m still nowhere close to matching her level of power. I am truly the one who is useless.”
“Maiden…”
Hearing that name from Helios, Lady hesitantly turned her eyes back toward him. He reached up and touched her cheek. “You are not useless, my Maiden. You’ve saved me from Nehellenia, saved the 30th century from the Death Phantom. You have a strong heart and a beautiful soul. Do not let doubt cloud your heart.”
“And I would say the same to you,” Lady laid her hand over his. “You came to us and sought help for Elysion even though you were in dire straits yourself at the time. If it weren’t for you, Papa and Mama wouldn’t have been able to defeat Nehellenia. And yesterday, if it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t not be here now.”
“Then, let us not speak of our weaknesses, but focus on how we can be stronger, together,” Helios smiled. “I will give you all of my power, so please, do not doubt yourself, Maiden.”
Cradling his hand to her chest, Lady mirrored his smile, “If I have you next to me I know I can get stronger, Helios. We will not let Chaos win!”

| I rushed on this a bit; I needed to do homework. - Story:
The sound of footsteps outside her bedroom door shook JunJun from a fitful sleep. Blinking, she sat up in her bed as she tried to adjust her eyes to the darkness. Yes, indeed it was still dark--much darker than what it usually was when she woke up. Slightly annoyed, Jun checked the time. It was 2:05 AM. Great, what with yesterday's battle, she would never get enough sleep. She'd have to set an alarm to wake up when she wanted to.
The footsteps stopped right outside her door. Looking through the crack between her door and the Palace floor, Jun could just make out the shadows of a pair of shaking feet.
Then, a knock.
"Come in," Jun called, her voice slightly hoarse from having just woken up.
No answer. Finally, after about a minute, the footsteps started up again, becoming fainter and fainter until Jun couldn't hear them anymore. By this point, she had a good idea about who was causing the noise.
Quickly, she slipped on a t-shirt over her pajamas, got out a flashlight, and walked out her door.
The Crystal Palace hallways were expansive, and almost like a maze. Jun gritted her teeth; VesVes could have gone anywhere. Last night's battle had been particularly taxing on her, and it was plain enough for everyone to see. If only she could see that demon again, if only it had a physical body that she could actually punch. Jun hated that feeling; she hated seeing her friends and sisters-in-arms bogged down by an enemy she couldn't just punch away.
She couldn't even begin to imagine how VesVes must have felt.
Jun chose to walk down a random corridor in the direction where she thought she heard the footsteps heading off to. She crept past doors and hallways, careful to tread lightly as so not to wake any sleeping staff, until finally she found Ves sitting cross-legged in front of a crackling fireplace.
"Hey," Jun said, and Ves jumped. Apparently she did not know she had been followed.
"Hey yourself," Ves grumbled, staring into the fire.
"Couldn't sleep?" Jun offered. Ves merely glowered.
"Well, what do ya think?"
"Well," Jun replied awkwardly, shuffling her feet. "I just wanna let you know that if there's anything I can do..."
"Anything you can do?" Ves repeated, finally turning around to face Jun. Now Jun could see that there were stress lines on Ves' face and bags under her eyes. She truly looked worse for the wear. "Anything you can do?? There's lots! Such as not talking to me, not being around me, not letting Cere or Palla or Hotaru or the princess come near me, taking me out if that demon ever comes back again and decides to mess with my mind again..."
"Ves!" Jun cried out, taking a step back in shock. "Don't say that! It's gone now, Usa-chan killed it. It's not coming back!"
"I COULD HAVE KILLED YOU ALL!" Ves roared, tears starting to stream down her face. Her hands curled into fists. "Hell, I WOULD have killed you all if Usa-chan hadn't hit me with her Freezing Kiss attack! But it was inside me, it was inside my mind, I could hear it laughing...I could hear myself laughing...as...I was about to..."
"VesVes," Jun said firmly, walking over and placing a hand on her shoulder. Ves all but recoiled at the touch, but seemed to calm down enough for Jun to continue talking. "Please listen to me. You're giving Usa-chan just a bit too much credit. Sure, she killed the thing, but do you remember who allowed her to do so?"
Ves just stared at her, breathing heavily. Finally, she muttered, "I did..."
"That's right, sis. You did. I saw how you hesitated to deal the finishing blow. You must have been fighting it, huh?"
Ves nodded slowly. "Uh huh. If ya say so."
"I mean it," Jun firmly stated. "We've all been possessed before, right? Nehellenia was a thing, also from what I hear Usa-chan and Hotaru-chan have been manipulated against their will before as well. You're not alone, and you're not weak just because this is the second time you've been possessed."
"Yeah, but..." Ves protested slightly. "I never tried to kill you or Palla or Cere when we were under Nehellenia's spell."
"True," Jun admitted. "But that doesn't change anything. The demon is dead. It's not coming back, and if it does, I'll find a way to force it to grow a body, and then I'll punch it."
"I'll join your efforts," Ves muttered. "I wanna punch it too."
In spite of everything, Jun grinned. "There. See? You're still you. Now, we should probably get back to bed before Hino-san comes over and starts yelling at us."
"Hey..." Suddenly an idea dawned on Ves. "Maybe I could use this battle and recovering from being possessed and all to skip school tomorrow!"
Jun sighed. "You just had to go there, didn't you?"
