Thread Title: [Multiverse][Advanced]Kalanalaythean
Description: Original Fantasy
Character Name: Kalanalaythean
Gender: Female Elf
Age: 112
Universe: Fantasy[/size]
Canon or Original: Original
Appearance:The first thing one might notice about this elf are her eyes. Clear blue with shots of gray, they are to some extent an oddity among the wood elves, who are generally associated with having brown irises, or the high elves for their green; the dark elves had blue eyes, but Kalanalaythean’s skin tone is far from the darker blue tones of that nocturnal sect. She appears to be an anomaly, having traits of the three races, rather than fitting into one category; like a high elf, despite her profession, her skin is pale in comparison to her fellow adventurers, ranging between creamy in hue to only slightly tan, regardless of how much time she has spent in the sun. She has a medium frame and is thin and fit, like most elves, and stands at an average height of 5’7”. Her hair, brown and thick like that of a wood elf, is constantly in a long ponytail with two locks purposefully left out in the front to frame her face. While Kalanalaythean could be considered to have the look of a typical elf, it is difficult to say what sub-race of elf she is, for even her general demeanor is apart from them.
Clothing-wise, Kalana prefers tight-fitting pants and boots to better gauge her movement; she likes looser tops, but held tight in place with vests so as not to snag on anything she passes by. Her attire begs function over form. About her waist is always found her sword-belt with twin rapiers; across her back, her quiver and bow. As a career adventurer, she has learned to never leave anyplace without a weapon.
Personality:Kalana is many things to many different people, and, as with most, her personality changes depending on the situation in which she finds herself.
To strangers and acquaintances, Kalana seems capable, compassionate, intelligent, patient, and efficient. She treats people with respect and offers them her best, and works hard to get through seemingly difficult situations with as little stress as possible. She considers varied points of view and attempts to act with fairness when making or passing judgement on others. Sometimes she comes off a little cold, her compassion not quite eliciting empathy; she keeps her emotions close to her chest when in the company of those who may need to look to her for answers. She comes off as a generally calm person, though to some that calmness may seem on the uncaring side, especially in stressful situations where she relies on logic to propel her forward. On Kalana's end, she doesn't jump to trust a person upon meeting them, often looking for motive for duplicity on their part before committing to believe what someone has to say; generally she's known to be a skeptic who typically bites her tongue about her suspicions rather than voice them.
To friends, Kalana is honest, giving her opinion and thoughts whenever asked, and while she may deliver 'bad news' in a tactful way, she would never withhold it. They would know that when she is certain of something, she stubbornly refuses to see another way. She commits herself to her words, living out promises even when they no longer suit her and acting out her own ideals as though she alone could validate their worthiness. While compassionate, Kalana will occasionally put the needs of strangers and acquaintances above the needs of her friends, trusting that they understand her predicament and that by putting them second she is saying she trusts them more, but that message often does not come across that way when plans are cancelled or delayed for someone they barely know. Kalana is independent, and when challenged, she would rather strike out on her own - she's most efficient at it - rather than back down, tying into her stubborn certainty of things. She can be oversensitive at times, especially when anxious or her ideas are being ignored, which causes her to have a short temper and generally unpleasant to be around. She occasionally has problems getting out of bad situations because, while she is logical and intelligent, she somewhat lacks imagination.
Any Unique Abilities/Skills:Kalana is somewhat of a field healer - she knows how to treat sickness and pain with herbs, can take care of minor wounds, and can recognize major injuries and takes steps in healing them. She's also pretty good at tracking.
History: Kalanalaythean was raised by a deeply caring family of wood elves, though she was told ever since she could understand words that they were not her real parents, as bloodlines were important to their culture and noting such things was commonplace. She loves her family and would do anything for them, but ever since she was very young she had a strong, compelling case of wanderlust. When she was old enough, around 60 years, she left her home and traveled the forests, living off the land and performing odd jobs to earn some money. Along her travels, she encountered some rather interesting people—adventurers. They lived the lives she yearned to live, lives filled with danger and excitement, with thrills and with nature. These people went places she had only dreamed of visiting, doing both daring deeds and mundane chores. It soon became clear to her that this was the path she was meant to follow, and so she joined them. Though most of her companions tended to be human or kender, the few elves she came across told her magnificent stories of their own homelands, and she made it sort of a goal for herself to visit all three lands and learn about their cultures. Before long she had friends belonging to all sub-races of elves.
The night that the town that held the Shield of Traelwyn was destroyed, Kalanalaythean was staying in the realm of the High Elves, in its capital. She noticed that something changed almost immediately—strangers, travelers, were quickly and quietly escorted outside of the city. She wasn’t among them, most of the elves in the city believed her to be one of their own. At first glance it wouldn’t have been seen as strange at all—that city held one of the last two artifacts of Traelwyn, it needed to be on high alert: not to mention that High Elves never really have liked other races. However, the general feeling was all wrong. To Kalana, at least, it seemed as if they were ridding themselves of those who might object to something they would do. She left the city a few days after.
Later on that very year, she came to be in the company of a friendly, happy human man by the name of Teeda, and together they adventured for years, getting into and out of scrapes, rescuing people in distress, fighting off maddened beasts for the safety of villages and for riches - you name it, they were doing it. Their work never fell to immoral sides - darker business they refused - and enjoyed the simple life. Eventually Teeda got married, but still adventured with her for a while, until a Gryphon got him in the leg and made walking painful. He settled down, built a tavern, and has been living off borrowed stories for years now. Kalana still visits him from time to time, especially during festivals and holidays.
Lately, though, something has felt off about the world. Mysterious disappearances of princes, tales of armies amassing in the east, a chilling tale of the defacing of a statue of Lael - none of it felt right to her. And on one fell night, while visiting her dear old friend, she found out why.

RP Sample: In this, Teeda was another of my characters. ^^' The heat was oppressive; walking through it felt as if she was wading through a bog of steam, she could feel her skin burning under her clothing, the sweat running down her brow. Every breath was strained, her lungs trying frantically to separate air from humidity; every fatigued step fell harder than the last. ‘How can these people stand it?’ she wondered as the townspeople happily paraded about her in their feathered and beaded outfits, each wearing a smile from ear to ear. Light from candles and torches lit the streets, banishing the darkness, yet emitting more and more heat. The elf came to a halt and pulled out her waterskin.
A block later she turned down another street, heading to the tavern district. Here the lights weren’t so concentrated, so a degree of cool was added back into the air—not so much as to make a significant difference, but just enough that she noticed the change. She sighed, relieved to be out of the crowd, and then, unexpectedly, she sneezed. Shaking it off, she continued on her way to The Gryphon’s Talon. It came into sight just as the door shut—a patron had just entered. The elf sneezed yet again, ‘someone’s talking about me…’ she hurried forward, hoping to catch Teeda red handed, or, in this case, open mouthed.

“Ya could say ‘e’s a bit’f a cult’ral expert b’sides bein’ an advent’rer—e’s been all over tha Elven Nations an’ tha Hum’n Kingdom an’ ‘e fits in well anywhere. Good with a bow, bet’r with rapiers, an’ decent with firs’ aide, ‘e’s good ta have if a fight breaks out. I think ya’ll like—“
“Teeda,” the door creaked as it opened wider than it normally did, causing several heads—including Teeda’s and Perrin’s—to turn towards the entry. “It isn’t polite to talk about someone when they’re not present.” An elf of indiscernible age stood in the doorway, her left hand on her hip and her right holding a light woodsman’s cloak. Thin swords hang from each hip and a small quiver of arrows was slung over her shoulder, along with a travel worn pack. A weary smile was on her face.
“Kalana!” Teeda welcomed happily, spreading out his arms as if he would embrace her. He waved her over, motioning to the seat between Anon and Aramil. After a quick hug from Perrin, the elf fatiguedly made her way over to the appointed seat, her bag and cloak appearing heavier than they should have been. She dropped her articles down beside the stool and sat, shortly afterwards placing her head, left cheek down, on the semi-cooled bar. Her long brown hair, captured in a ponytail except for two strands at the front, lay in a thick pool of curls on the bar top behind her, the ends cascading off the edge. Her eyes were closed, her breathing steady and even—it appeared as if she was asleep. “Kally? Are ya alright?” the retired adventurer asked, concern evident on his face.
“Water, please,” the elf replied. Upon closer inspection, the elf’s face was flushed and red, heat came off of her in waves.
“’f course—Here ya go lass,” Teeda, working quickly, placed a mug filled with cooled water before her. She sat up and almost downed the whole glass at once. “What’ve ya been doin’?” Teeda inquired, watching as she caught her breath and drank the rest of the water.
The elf laughed, “I thought it would be fun to travel across the entire town and watch the festival unfold—I didn’t know how hot it would be! I’m feeling much better now, thank you Teeda.”
He smiled and refilled her mug. “So, Kally, what’ve ya been up ta since last I saw ya?” The man’s blue eyes took on a craving sheen, hungry for any adventurous stories his old friend might have to share with him.
“There will be plenty of time to catch up later, but first I want to know why and with whom you were talking about me.” The elf put her right elbow on the bar and put her head in her hand, waiting for Teeda’s response.
