Her name is derived from the Japanese word for Kermesite/Red Antimony: "kooankou" 紅安鉱.

Age and Date of Birth: At age 15, she is the youngest of the Ayakashi Sisters. Her birthday is April 19th.

Used Canons: Manga, 90s anime, musicals, and Crystal--with the heaviest focus on the 90s anime. However, there is also a significant amount of non-canon information that is being inferred to suit the particular needs for this character.

Appearance: Koan appears to be taller than Berthier, but shorter than Petz and Calaveras. She has a shapely and lithe figure, like a supermodel. Her skin is a healthy peach hue, similar to that of her sisters. Her cat-shaped eyes are violet. She has thin arched eyebrows that often give her an arrogant expression. In the center of her forehead is the upside-down black crescent of the Black Moon.

Her dark violet hair is long—typically depicted reaching at least her lower back—and extremely curly. It is parted at the center and pulled away from her face, with no bangs. Her hair is styled to give her a cat-ear shape, but she does not have distinct odango. Instead, her hair seems to form the cat ears as part of being pulled back from her face.

She often wears lipstick, and sometimes other cosmetic products. When not wearing her typical outfit, she opts for girly and frilly things—as long as they are also fashionable.

Koan's typical attire begins with a long-sleeved, footed bodysuit with a high neckline. The bodysuit is a pinkish-violet with darker violet vertical stripes. The sleeves end at the wrist with a fitted dark violet satin ribbon. A similar satin ribbon is around the neck, like a choker, fastening the neckline of the bodysuit. On this ribbon a dark rose—black with a violet tint—is centered. Around her waist is a voluminous skirt-like wrap made of dark violet feather-like petals of a sheer fabric. In some ways this skirt is almost like a ballerina's romantic tutu; it angles out from her body in a cloud of fluff. Her high heeled pumps, also dark violet, have plumes coming from the vamp of the shoe (across the top of her foot), wrapping around the outer edge of each foot, and ending behind her ankle.

She wears a large ring on the middle finger of her right hand. The style of the ring matches a much larger adornment on her forehead. There is a shimmering violet stone, cut in a hexagon shape with slightly longer vertical sides. It is fixed in an elaborate sculpted setting of darkened silver. She wears a Malefic Black Crystal earring dangling from the lobe of each ear. (These earrings are the standard style--a weighted black drop crystal that hangs from a gold charm resembling a fleur de lis.) Koan's fingernails are long and definitive, polished with a bright violet lacquer.

Personality: Koan is the youngest of her sisters, and as the "baby" of the family she has been rather indulged. She tends towards selfishness, usually thinking of her own wants and needs before those of others. Koan is not intentionally trying to ignore or disregard others, but she has yet to truly understand the value of expanding her focus beyond herself. She is accustomed to getting what she wants and having others rationalize or turn a blind eye to minor rudeness or inappropriateness. She loves her older sisters dearly and looks up to all of them, but she shows little respect for them in her interactions. To summarize, Koan is spoiled.

She is short-tempered and quick to make judgments. Koan spends her time and energy in the moment, rather than reflecting on the past or planning for the future. Often her immediate decisions are ill-advised and have negative consequences. She is used to allocating the blame somewhere besides herself and having others fix the trouble she has caused. When scolded or lectured, she sulks and acts petulantly—but never for long. Koan's frustration or sadness disappears as speedily as it arrives, returning her to a state that is generally cheery and happy-go-lucky.

Koan is energetic and buoyant. She likes activity and hates sitting still, so she often volunteers to do tasks or errands when others have them. If what she has volunteered for turns out to be boring, she will abandon it or fail to complete it correctly, but she's up for giving it a try. Koan doesn't like to be in charge, and she'll generally follow what her older sisters have asked her to—unless it is, as previously mentioned, boring or if she feels insulted by that person prior to the request. She can be fun to have around because she doesn't mind acting silly or going along with someone else's plan.

She is very open with others, talking about herself and her feelings. Only a fool would ask Koan to keep a secret, as she cannot resist sharing anything she knows. Koan's crush on Rubeus is known by absolutely everyone within earshot, because she keeps talking about it. She is oblivious to the fact that he might learn of it, and thinks that she is being subtle. Subtlety is a skill she utterly lacks.

Koans interests primarily involve makeup, fashion, and beauty. She likes dressing herself up; she likes dressing others up. She likes applying makeup and trying new beauty products. She spends most of her money on clothing, accessories, and cosmetics. This is a topic that never bores Koan, and she loves giving makeovers or providing style advice. She always knows what the current style trends are. Koan thinks that she might like to be a cosmetics saleswoman someday or spend her time consulting style for stores or publications.

Her role as one of Princess Esmeraude's guardians is something Koan keeps changing her mind about. One moment she likes it, because she gets to pretend to be a princess and live at the palace. Another moment she hates the responsibility and training she's supposed to be doing. She'll flip-flop again and think it's an honor to be protecting the future queen of Nemesis. But after another long day, she hates not being a normal girl and wants to go back to her hometown, before all of this happened. It will take a while for her to come to terms with this part of her life.

Any Unique Abilities/Skills:
• Koan has minor fortune-telling affinity, although her insight appears to be generally limited to a rough prediction of potential tragedies (deaths, harm, etc.) based on palmistry. She also sometimes receives strong impressions of negative occurrences, but it's more of a feeling that bad things will happen rather than a specific vision of the events to come. She has not honed these skills; her accuracy could increase with practice, but she has yet to seek improvement.

• Her ability to control and influence flames is not limited to her role as Sailor Inferno. Koan has a connection to fire and flame, able to vaguely sense heat sources and sometimes know when/where fires are occurring. She can also tell if someone else shares a similar affinity with fire. Her body temperature is rather high; she "runs hot".

• Anyone in need of a makeover or style upgrade ought to seek out Koan. She has a knack for understanding current trends and getting ahead of new fads, sometimes setting them herself. Like any excellent stylist, Koan understands what others are hoping for and does a marvelous job translating impressions and longings into exactly what was desired. She doesn't simply try to apply what she prefers onto every other person; she identifies with the different preferences that other people have and customizes her approach accordingly.

History: Koan is the youngest of four sisters, born and raised in her small hometown within the province of Timaru on the planet Nemesis. She loves and looks up to her older sisters. They have always cared for her. She feels lucky that the four of them were awakened as guardians of Princess Esmeraude together; as they share a sacred duty they will not be separated.

Her childhood was uneventful and generally pleasant. It was only at her awakening as Sailor Inferno that her life became truly interesting. These strange powers meant that she was a chosen one, destined to serve and protect the mighty ruler of Nemesis. Koan felt extremely excited for this opportunity, especially knowing that she shared it with her sisters. She usually thinks of her transformation item as a badge of honor, unless training or working is particularly tough or annoying that day.

Of course, Koan loves living in the capital city. It's full of life and activity—so much better (in her opinion) than the rural area they once lived in. (Whether it is truly "rural" or not might just be a matter of perception, as Koan doesn't necessarily focus too much on the actual reality of things as much as her own impressions of them. She just adores being in the center of things and living in the castle with her Princess.) Of course... she would like it even better without the duties of being a guardian. It's a lot of hard work!

When the arranged marriage between Princess Esmeraude and Princess Demande is announced, Koan is filled with anticipation for romance and mystery... yet there's something about the prince that makes her feel slightly uneasy around him. But surely that's just her imagination.

Senshi Fuku: As Sailor Inferno, Koan wears a form-fitting white bodysuit. It has large round sleeves, like perfect spheres, with two white padded bands where the sleeve ends at the upper arm. Her standard-size sailor collar is cerise pink, with no stripes. Her simple ribbon choker is the same hue. The front bow on the chest of her uniform is lavender, with a large pink faceted star brooch at the center. She wears a short pleated skirt of her primary colour, and it attaches to the bodysuit with a v-shaped padded roll of white fabric. At the small of her back, fastened to the skirt's waistband, is a blossom pink bow slightly larger than the one worn on her chest. On her arms are white gloves that reach a few inches above the elbow and end with three padded rolls of cerise pink fabric. On her feet she wears high-heeled pumps in her primary colour. They are somewhat similar in style to her normal shoes, but these have raised flame-like extensions around the back of the shoe, cupping the heel. Her stud earrings are medium-sized blossom pink roses. She wears a v-shaped gold tiara with a pink star-shaped gem at the lowest point.

Powers:
• "Dark Fireball!" - Sailor Inferno waves her hands and generates swirling balls of blue fire that she hurtles at enemies. She can throw a number of fireballs for this attack and hit multiple enemies, although the more fireballs she generates the less destructive power each has per impact. This attack is low to moderate power and causes burns and energy damage. If Sailor Inferno is not focused on her targets an ally could suffer minor burns. The fireballs cause roughly 1/5th the damage to allies as they potentially could to opponents. These fireballs cannot be deflected: a deflection attempt will cause the fireball to fizzle out and dissipate.

• "Dark Fireball Cannon!" - This is a modified version of her first attack. Sailor Inferno takes time to gather energy into larger and larger fireballs that move more quickly and cause more damage. This attack is moderate to moderate-high power. Sailor Inferno must master her original attack to be able to use this version of it.

• "Blazing Pyre!" - Sailor Inferno summons a pillar of bright blue flame to engulf an area of an approximately five meter diameter. It can impact one or more enemies in that range. The flames will not burn or injure allies, although they will feel some mild heat. This attack is moderate to high power and causes both burn damage and energy damage. Sailor Inferno must have mastered at least a mid-level of control over her powers to use this attack or she will not be able to summon enough fire to create the pillar.

Magical Items:
• Transformation Pen - Uses this item to transform into Sailor Inferno. It resembles the first transformation pens used by Sailors Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Venus. However, the primary colour of the pen staff is Sailor Inferno's cerise pink. Within the gold medallion at the top is the Inferno symbol.

RP Sample: The item suspended in the air before her seemed to glow with a bright light. As she reached for it, she felt that familiar warmth flood through her body. As if unseen flames wrapped around her—for some that thought might have been terrifying, but for Koan it was a comfort. Her dark eyes stared up at the cerise pink pen with gold hardware, the light reflecting back. She could almost hear music as her fingers closed around the barrel.

And then there was light and glimmer and pink and magic.

Sailor Inferno felt her feet touch the ground and she stared around her, amazed. She felt so... different! Her nerves tingled with sensation, as though everything around her had been amplified. The colours were brighter and the angles sharper. The sounds seemed clearer than ever before. Her body felt as if it was literally surging with power, too much to contain.

She pressed her gloved hands together then pulled them apart, moving the energy as though it had tangible form.

"Dark... Fireball!" she cried, sending a sphere of radiant bluish-black flame launching forth.

I have just a couple small questions: I’m curious to know how exactly Koan awakened as Sailor Inferno. Could you perhaps talk a little about it? =) Oh, and what is the symbol of inferno like?

Symbol: Looks like the incomplete outline of a flame.

Awakening: I'm really not too clear on the very specific event, and I don't think it will be necessary in the primary RP this character is designed for—and probably wouldn't be referenced in others. I feel like whatever that event was has to make sense for all of the four sisters. If they're all Esmeraude's guardians, they ought to have something in common regarding their discovery of powers and mission. Most of the other profiles are relaxed and were not required to provide details of awakening. I don't want to force the other players into going along with whatever I decide. It is unlikely that this would be material to the storyline(s) exactly what happened or exactly when.
