| It's a Cartoon Network Mini-Series that consisted of 10 eleven or twelve-minute episodes. They premiered two at a time every Thursday night this past November. Also, the Pilot was just released for viewing about three weeks ago. It tells the tale of two brothers who are lost in a Halloween-ish fairy-tale land called the unknown, and are trying to find their way home. It was popular enough to have a single issue of an episode that was cut, and it was announced this week that there will be a comic book series to be published by BOOM studios sometime this year, consisting of other episodes that had to be cut. You can find the entire series on-demand if you have Time Warner Cable, can buy it legally on Itunes, or just look it up on various streaming sites. Also the animation is amazing look at this ALSO LOOK AT THESE NERDS Okay, factual part of the post is over. I cannot be the only one on this forum to have loved this series to shreds and back. Cmon, give them some love! |

| *Casually steps in and review thread that's more than a year old*
I've heard about this show from a few places: Pinterest, YouTube, my friend... And I thought I'd finally give it a shot after looking at it on TV Tropes. And I am glad I did. I'm only 3 episodes in, but I love the incredibly creepy atmosphere (this show is creepier than Gravity Falls. Seriously. I love GF but Over the Garden Wall is a lot more subtle about it's horror, which is fine by me), the animation is beautiful, like it's probably some of the most gorgeous I've ever seen in western animation, and the smooth myth arc and continuity is nice, because even with some of the better cartoons out there, we don't quite get that all the time (looking at you Star vs. The Forces of Evil and Phineas and Ferb(. So if you liked Gravity Falls, you should probably watch this show. All the episodes are super short and you could probably sit down and watch the whole thing in a couple hours. |

| THANK YOU FOR REVIVING THIS THREAD
It was supposed to be a full blown series, but was only approved to be a mini-series. There's a comic book series that covers removed episodes and concepts. No idea how far they're in though, but it's from Boom!studios.

| My brother and I are planning on watching the whole thing tonight. We watched Gravity Falls together and we've kinda been looking for another cartoon to watch together. |

| So I just finished it... And wow. Okay. It's impossible to really give everything I thought about this beautiful masterpiece of a freaking CARTOON without spoilers. Just... If you consider yourself a fan of fantasy, horror, or something like Gravity Falls, take some time out of you day and watch this. - Spoiler:
Okay, now that that's out of the way... I absolutely LOVED Over the Garden Wall. The characters were incredibly well written and interesting. If I had to pick a favorite it would be Wirt. Partly because I, too, am an awkward dork sometimes, but his whole older sibling, I-have-to-take-care-of-my-brother mindset... I get that mindset. I have that mindset. In episode 8 when Greg gets taken by The Beast and Wirt is panicking... I've been there. If you have a younger sibling, and you have lost them, you know the frantic panic and anger and all the emotions Wirt was feeling in that moment. And the voice acting! Oh my gosh. All the performances were very good. I think my second favorite character was Beatrice. I enjoyed hearing her story too. And of course, there's Greg, and the frog, and The Woodsman, and Fred... All well written and good characters. Now onto the writing and plot. I love how tightly plotted and interconnected this show was. The short length worked perfectly to create this... Old atmosphere. I can't quite pin it down. Something about the music, the way characters dressed, the way the story was told, and the art style made this feel very warm and aged. In the best way possible. The Woods was a great world that was built. I liked how we were told about The Woods, but not too much. We were told just enough for what the plot needed, which leaves this series open to so many fan theories and headcanons. It works wonderfully. And I'm sure some of that will be expanded on in the comic book, which I'd like to read sometime. And it kept this balance of humor too. Like some parts of this show are incredibly funny. It knows when to take itself seriously and when to have fun. Oh, and while we're talking about how the atmosphere was built, let's talk about the animation. Gorgeous. Absolutely stunning. At first I thought it was kind of weird how the eyes looked, but I eventually liked it and realized it just adds to how darn creepy this show is. And how bout that music. Oh, that music! One of the things that happens sometimes in musical-ish shows is that the songs characters sing can feel kind of spontaneous and weird, just kinda stuck in there, but I liked that all the songs had a reason to have words and to exist. Like Greg's song about going to Adelaide's, the song the frog sang, and other things like that. I'd also like to talk about Wirt and Greg's family for a bit. It was interesting how they kinda hinted at a stilted relationship between Wirt and his stepfather. I'd really like to see more on that. And the whole cute romance thing with Sara was entertaining. I like how they built it up like Sara was some ultra-popular hot chick and Jason was a star football player, but Sara turned out to be a normal down to earth girl, and Jason was an even bigger geek than Wirt. That was a nice subversion of a somewhat overused trope. So what are my final thoughts on this? 10/10. Seriously. Nothing here was done wrong. I kinda wish it was longer, but I don't think it would work otherwise. So Over the Garden Wall. One of the best TV shows I've watched in a long time.
