| Advanced Character Profile Character Name: Professor Souichi Tomoe (土萠創一); Germatoid (ゲルマトイド) - Name Significance:
His surname is also that of his daughter, Hotaru also known as Sailor Saturn. "Tomoe" references her guardian planet: "土" ("to": soil, earth) as in "土星" ("dosei": planet Saturn) and "萠" ("moe" in this name, but not usually pronounced that way: sprout, germinate). The "萠" in the Professor's case may have a connection to the way that Daimon are "germinated" within humans/etc. His given name, Souichi, contains the following characters: "創" ("sou" in this name: genesis, originate, & injury, hurt) and "一" ("ichi": one)—commonly used in male names. In some ways, he is both the "origin" of Hotaru's possession by Mistress 9 and "harmed" by his own possession via Germatoid.
"Germatoid" may reference "germinating". In biology, a "germ" is the cells from which a new organism develops, also known as a bud or sprout. This may relate to the "Tomoe" surname. The "—oid" suffix means "resembling" or "like". Gender: Male Age and Date of Birth: Middle-aged; birth date unknown Used Canons: Manga, 90s anime, live action, musicals, and Crystal Appearance: Professor Souichi Tomoe is moderate height for a Japanese adult male, neither tall nor short. He has an average build, neither thin nor heavyset. His skin tone is typical, if not somewhat on the paler side. This may simply be because the man rarely spends time anywhere other than his basement laboratory complex. His eyes are a slate blue-gray colour, although the right eye is obscured by the decorated lens of his glasses. He wears wire-framed round-lens glasses, and the opaque right lens displays the outline of an open eye with a pentagram at the center. His white hair is styled in a slightly long businessman-style cut. He typically wears a long-sleeved powder blue dress shirt with slightly darker blue stripes, paired with a tie of the same darker blue colour. He wears darker blue slacks, a brown belt, and brown dress shoes. Over this is a white lab coat that reaches his knees. In the manga, he sometimes wears a white dress shirt, black tie, and the vest and pants of a dark three-piece suit under his lab coat. He sometimes wears a gray vest in Crystal. When Professor Tomoe is hard at work, he frequently looks like less of a man and more of a creature. His form appears to be a black silhouette in a white lab coat. The round lenses of his glasses illuminate to form white glowing circles. His mouth is the only detail of his face that can be seen besides the glasses, and it is a wide red sideways crescent shape. It resembles the way children draw a mouth, not any actual human mouth. Sometimes his hands are shown with their actual flesh colour—sometimes they are also part of the black silhouette. - Germatoid:
In the manga, his form as Germatoid is a black-mottled humanoid form with many spikes protruding from his shoulders. A black star marks his forehead. His eyes are only wide sockets now, no eyeballs visible, and he wears no clothing. His anatomy is no longer correct, although still human male in form. His ribs seem to hang strangely and his fingers are crooked and long. In Crystal, he resembles his manga form with a violet hue
In the 90s anime, his first form as Germatoid looks like a buff human male wearing a light blue form-fitting total-body suit. His pectoral muscles are extremely well-defined and marked with a large black 5-point star centered on his chest. His head, now an exaggerated oval shape, has the red gaping out of his typical "silhouette" form and a large image of the eye with pentagram typically on his glasses instead centered above the mouth.
In the 90s anime, Germatoid's true form is a plant-like, spidery thing. It has a large red round base from which there is a lighter red heart-shaped opening. Just under the "flap" of that opening are two extended spider-like legs. Emerging from the opening is the long stalk topped with Germatoids head and two thin stamen-like "arms". The legs, arms, and head are olive green with a black pattern like the spots on a giraffe. A large pale violet petal extends from the red base and peaks behind the head stalk. The head resembles that of the first form with a black star centered on the forehead. Personality: Professor Tomoe is insane. He may have once been a mild-mannered scientist, content to seclude himself in the lab and work on his research rather than interacting with others. He may have been a brilliant man—a forward-thinking mind that sought out answers to questions never yet asked. He may have been a loving, caring father who doted on his only daughter. He may have been a considerate husband who showed compassion and love to his wife. Now, none of those descriptions are accurate. He is driven only by his desire to fulfill the great scheme of Master Pharaoh 90 and make the Earth and the Solar System a home world for those from the Tau system. His extreme intelligence is now warped and twisted, unable to feel concern that his cultivation of alien life forms is endangering humans. Now he wants to replace them, to take this world from them and alter it for new and different tenants. Professor Tomoe is incredibly enthusiastic about his missions and tasks. He frequently expresses himself with booming laughter and excited exclamations. He is unnecessarily cheerful about almost all of the horrible things he is doing, demonstrating a clear disregard for morality and common decency. He doesn't seem terribly concerned about repercussions or consequences, acting on whims and easily improvising as he goes along. He often seems lacking in focus when others are being serious. On the flip side, he can sometimes speak gravely on issues that are completely nonsensical. This is only when he is in his element as an agent of evil—when forced to interact with others under the guise of the human man Souichi Tomoe, he is cold and aloof. It is only towards his daughter, Hotaru, that he shows any affection. In most forms of Sailor Moon canon, Professor Tomoe primarily winds up down this path due to his love for his daughter, Hotaru. He accepts the devil's bargain with Master Pharaoh 90 as a means to save her. He sacrifices his own life and sanity to prevent her death, although ultimately he cannot save or protect her. His own subsequent madness is twisted by evil influences. His love for Hotaru regularly shines through, particularly in the 90s anime, where he tries to save her even as her body (possessed by Mistress 9) tries to kill him. In Crystal, Professor Tomoe's own hubris leads to his destruction. He dreams of creating Super Life-Forms. The Professor believes that alien beings exist, despite being ostracized by the community for his wild beliefs and unethical experiments, and he longs to merge alien life-forms with humans to create superior beings. He is filled with resentment at being treated like anything less than the genius that he is. He wants revenge on everyone who turned up their nose at his work. Tomoe willingly accepts the power offered to him, wanting to use it to further his research. The longer he continues under the power of Master Pharaoh 90, the more his unhealthy egomania is fueled. It eventually leads to his undoing, when he challenges and is killed by Sailors Moon, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Any Unique Abilities/Skills:• Scientific Genius - This may seem somewhat muddied by his madness, but Professor Tomoe is extremely intelligent and creative. He asks questions and seeks answers that no one else has broached. He knows his way around a laboratory and understands proper research, even if he sometimes fails to follow appropriate methods. • Unbound Insanity - The Professor's craziness allows him to bend several natural laws. He frequently contorts his body in ways that should be impossible. He appears to be able to access, store, and generate items in a way that ought not be possible. (Such as grabbing them out of thin air.) He sometimes disappears and reappears in ways and places that do not make sense. He has access to seemingly unlimited resources, allowing him to use equipment and materials, build secret underground laboratories, and more. • Daimon Eggs - Professor Tomoe uses Daimon Eggs to turn humans or objects into Daimon. He cooks these up in the laboratory and frequently provides them to the Witches 5 or Kaolinite when dispatching his subordinates on missions. History: Professor Souichi Tomoe is a scientist. In the manga, his research seemed to focus on cybernetics and genetics. In Crystal, he was involved in bio-engineering and astrophysics. A catastrophic lab accident claimed the life of his wife, Keiko, and nearly killed his young daughter, Hotaru. This accident coincided with the arrival of life forms from a distant place—the Tau system. These entities reached out to the Professor, promising to save his daughter's life if he pledged to serve them and their purpose. Professor Tomoe agrees. He becomes an agent of Master Pharaoh 90, and plants the Daimon Egg that will mature into Mistress 9 into his daughter, Hotaru. His lab assistant, Kaori, becomes Kaolinite. His successful vesselization of power from Master Pharaoh 90 (in the form of Germatoid) makes him the leader of the Death Busters. In the 90s anime, the Death Busters collect Pure Heart Crystals, searching for the power of the Talismans to awaken Mistress 9. In the manga and in Crystal, they seek Hoste. Both are a form of human energy, following the grand tradition of Sailor Moon enemies. He created and cultivated Diamon Eggs to collect energy for Master Pharaoh 90. He attempts to harness power that will allow Master Pharaoh 90 to make the Earth and the Solar System the second home world of the Death Busters. When the sailor soldiers arrive to stop this plan, Professor Tomoe turns into his final Daimon form, Germatoid. He is not successful in defeating them, and is instead himself defeated. In most of the sources, he dies. In the 90s anime, he is cleansed of the evil forces and reborn with no memory of his time with the Death Busters. He briefly is reunited with baby Hotaru until Michiru, Haruka, and Setsuna take the child to raise her. Other Noteworthy Facts: • In Crystal and some musicals, he created the Witches 5. It's possible that he may have created them in the 90s anime as well. (They appear to be students from the academy in the manga, but the potential is there that he created them and then they enrolled.) • He's the best. Storyline Specific Information: - [Advanced] Love and Justice League:
In cities all over the world, there has been an increase of what governments refer to as super powered individuals. From strange mutations to supernatural abilities to technical whizzes to beings that aren't even human, they've all began to emerge over the past few years. Some use their power to do what they believe is right, though others use it for their own twisted means. And so the age of Heroes and Villains was started.
From the Juuban District of Tokyo, Japan, a small group of high school girls begin their own journey as vigilantes, who in their own way, fight for love and justice. Little do they know that the global company Chaos Syndicate has amassed their own gangs of super-powered humans for their cause of world domination. Though they maintain an innocent front, their business has funded multiple gangs of villains, many that have made Tokyo the set piece of their crimes and turf wars. It will be up to the Love and Justice League to defeat this threat before an even greater evil is unleashed... once they can actually work together.
This is an alternate universe, and as a result Professor Tomoe's history is now different.
Souichi and Kaori were childhood friends, and he never realized just how much more strongly she felt about their relationship than he did. To him, she has always been a friend and comrade. They shared many interests (particularly a drive to learn and explore their world) and enjoyed each other's company, but nothing intimate. Not quite a sister, and certainly not a romantic interest. Those feelings became explicitly clear to him when he began falling for his future wife, Keiko. Prior to meeting this cheerful and hardworking young woman, his thoughts focused solely on making a name for himself via scientific discovery. Now... now he wanted something different: a family.
After their marriage, Souichi became the picture of a perfect spouse. His placed his new wife above all other cares, even his former first love: science. He didn't realize that this caused sourness and jealousy for Kaori, now assisting him. He was truly happy—so very, very happy—and every day seemed better than the last. When the happy couple became a blessed family of three, his life felt so much fuller than it ever had. Souichi doted on his daughter, Hotaru, and even considered retiring from research altogether. He didn't want to miss a moment with his beloved family.
The lab accident that claimed the life of Keiko and Hotaru absolutely gutted him. Waking up from his own coma and being told that his wife and daughter were dead... that was the moment when he snapped. That was the moment when the mild-mannered, gentle man morphed into the crazed maniac that he remains today. With the support of Kaori, Souichi turned his attention back to his work, a new laser focus on innovation and discovery. All he wanted was one thing—Keiko and Hotaru, returned to him. He began the morally questionable and eventually outright illegal experiments on human subjects, attempting to bring back departed souls via "Death Busting", that would eventually ostracize him from the scientific community and see him stripped of his former prestige.
But that didn't matter to Professor Tomoe. He was going to make this work. Keiko and Hotaru would return to him.
With Kaori's ever-present encouragement and direction, he played a role in the creation of both "Taioron Crystal" and eventually "Taioron Ω". These drugs serve as one of several unorthodox revenue streams to help offset the costs of their research, as well as possible use in his goal to reverse death. Although he does not use the drug, his constant exposure to the various chemicals and compounds has granted him non-human-seeming abilities (such as those detailed under "unique abilities and skills") that seem to be caused by to the substance.
He's rather ambivalent (although not unkind) to the Witches 5, and even Kaolinite, his thoughts always fixated on his goal. He has managed to tentatively preserve Hotaru's body, carefully dressed and displayed seated in an ornate chair upon a shrine of stuffed animals. Professor Tomoe regularly visits this sacred place and vows to complete his work and resurrect her.
He has been able to continue the same types of experiments that made him an outcast of the scientific community. Some of his work has been performed on Death Busters members, such as Mimete, and while others are performed on willing... or unwilling... research subjects. The Daimon that sometimes mutate from overuse of "Taioron Crystal" are also studied and analyzed by the good doctor.
"Taioron Crystal"/Taioron Ω - “Taioron Crystal” is the street name for a synthetic drug distributed by the Death Busters. It was originally developed by Doctor Souichi Tomoe and is claimed by him to be a source of renewed life and power to those who abuse it. This psychoactive drug alters perception and gives the user a false sense of invincibility, encouraging aggression, risk-taking, and unreasonable ego. Side effects can include increased alertness, rapid heart rate, vertigo, and euphoric mood swings—due to the unrefined nature of "Taioron Crystal" these side effects may vary. This dangerous substance carries a significant risk of overdose, which can cause mutation into a beast called a "Daimon." Daimon are primal forms of the users they developed from. They can be commanded and controlled by others, particularly by Death Busters. The Witches 5 indulge in a more processed and controlled version of the substance, called "Taioron Ω". Kaolinite rewards these tablets to the Witches 5 for obedience and success.
- [Relaxed] Chaotic Mayhem:
Somehow, villains from throughout the Sailor Moon Universe have found themselves recruited by Chaos to continue the fight against the powers of good. They have been called from their individual timelines, each at the peak of their evil plots, to attempt to disrupt the universal balance and tip it in the favour of darkness.
They find themselves collectively in late 20th century Tokyo, each with an important mission to carry out. Although there may be tension with fellow villains from their own timeline, most regard those unfamiliar with suspicion and rivalry. As the group tries to get to know each other, some boasting about what special tasks they have been asked to complete, they realize that the missions each group has received is exactly the same.
Now it's a challenge. Now it's a contest. Now they're out to prove to each other that they're the BETTER (or is it... worse?) villains that the Sailor Team has fought or will fight.
Professor Tomoe acts as the "leader" of the Death Busters on this strange mission. He is extremely enthusiastic about these mysterious tasks and the unseen letter-writer, claiming that this is a perfect opportunity for scientific discovery! RP Sample: - Excerpt from "Vacation to the Dark Side" Casual Event:
The Professor's grin widened as other team members appeared and a few questions were directed his way. "I have heard that humans are revived by this thing called 'vacation'," he rambled, not even beginning to notice the conflict starting to emerge from the unknown groups clustered around him. "I invited you here so that we could investigate what impact this setting could have on Pure Heart Crystals." It was truly not one of his most inspiring or believable excuses, but it also was far from one of the worst. Not at all as bad as his decidedly un-waltz like "waltz" and the hideous Daimon formed from it. "You always prepare appropriately, Viluy-kun. I'm sure your equipment will come in handy." Kaolinite's appearance would have made his eyebrows wiggle, if he had visible eyebrows. Perhaps they were wiggling somewhere behind the blinding glare of his glasses. He had, of course, brought bathing suits for all of his lab assistants, as "propriety" was not a word Professor Tomoe seemed to actually understand. That's why he had so many loaded in his arms. The red-head had certainly outdone herself with her own selection. "The reservation desk only had the larger bungalow available, Kaolinite-kun. This will make an excellent team-building exercise!" His head swiveled around when a woman's voice called out, something about the staff cleaning up corpses. There was something deeply disturbing about his position and the motion his body had made to achieve it. A head really ought not to spin around in such a way unless one was an owl. His glasses seemed to flash even more brightly for just a moment, and he made an appreciative noise at the woman in golden armor--and his smile widened as she approached a white-haired man (not himself) with aggressive posture. He chuckled, a high-pitched cackling sound that made one's teeth feel uncomfortable. "Hmm, I could replicate this appearance with a gold brick, a roll of aluminum foil, and a Daimon egg," he mused to himself. "Truly a masterful creation! Perhaps it was left here in my bungalow to greet us!" (Source: Vacation to the Dark Side Casual Event)
