Hiya. I really love the new reboot. I think the art style is gorgeous and a lot closer to Naoko's style than the original anime. However, there is something about Sailormoon's new transformation that annoys the hell out of me. (Besides it being in CGI, I hate that as well.. but this is more specific).
 
I wanted to see if this specific little thing annoyed anyone else as much as it did me.
 
So, one of the things I love about the original transformations from the 90's series was how detailed they drew Sailormoon's bangs when she was getting her tiara and hair decorations...
 
The new Crystal transformation.. I feel like it just.. spit all over how detailed and pretty those sequences were from the original anime. :/

The Crystal sequence for her bangs is just so... "meh"... compared to how detailed and pretty the 90's sequences were. It's just.. a major bummer for me. :/

Yeah, it's really anoying! To be honest, I think ALL her hair looks bad on the new transformation sequence

I think some of it has to do with the fact that its CGI. I've watched quite a few anime with CGI and it seems there is less detail. And you're right it does look silly.

I personally don't really see the problem. I guess it's subjective.

I've still not seen Crystal yet (I know) but i do see what you mean. I'm still on the fence about all the animation tbh, I didn't like the initial designs but seeing them animated does seem better. I hope it's not all kind of half hearted? I'll need to watch to see properly. =p

It's just jarring to switch to CGI so suddenly. I'm sure we'll get used to it.

... Although if they don't have 2 minutes of filler with transformations every episode like the last anime / live action, I won't complain.

I hate the transformation with a passion. It looks like an early PS2 game. I'm okay with using CG for the brooch, but all CG? 

Yeah the bangs look more detailed in the old anime. I'm sure they're cutting corners with the new anime to get it out in time. This is why I wish animes were made all at once instead animating between episodes.

guys I'm still a student but I could make a better model and sequence than that, and characters aren't my field! I really dislike the CG transformation altogether but it wont stop me from watching the rest of the reboot, I mean it's just a few moments i can deal.

Honestly, I feel like I'm the only fan from the 90's boom that didn't want a transformation at all. The manga didn't bother with it, it was pretty filler, and as so many parodies seem to like to depict, why didn't any enemy just attack during that long sequence?

Sifr i would have not had a transformation sequence in the reboot than the one we have. I really dis like it, that's got to be the only thing i really didn't like about it at all.

The transformation is just there for the audience. In reality it's an instant thing.

As Yamichan said, it's just episode filler / making it entertaining and more visual than *SparklesPoof*. 

The new transformation has grown on me, but that bangs part still bugs the heck outta me actually xD It just looks so odd. I think because of the lack of definition of the hair pieces, just looks so fake/weird. I can deal with it since it's only a few seconds out of a whole episode but yeah.

I love the new series but the transformation was just bad. Like people have said here, it reminds me of a videogame! I hate the way her hand looks so scrawny as it waves around while she transforms or how everything kind of appears on her. In the original you could see the transition of her boots and gloves being placed on her. I just thought it looked smoother and prettier.

Yeah, I'm not too fond of the cgi transformations at all. But, one thing I did like was the individual strands that you can see now and then in Sailormoon's transformation, that was pretty cool.


Still.. for it being Sailor freaking MOON you'd think they'd not cut the budget on one of the things that made the show so iconic. And yes, 'noodly' is a good way to describe some of the shots.. like the one of her arm sweeping. Noodly.. so noodly.

But, the new transformation also has grown on me like Nessie said as well. But like some others have said, it's still jarring to have well budgeted 2d animation and then suddenly CGI in yo face.

I like to edit things and mash stuff together.. and I started finding clips from the 90's series that are similar to Sailormoon's transformation.. I kinda wanna make a 90's version of it. I start anything like that by making a crude storyboard (?) of each scene and finding scenes from the 90's anime that sorta fit.. this is what i have so far.

I dont mind the transformation being cgi but it looks really cheap compared to the 3d cgi transformations of pretty cure. Since most of the staff worked on pretty cure i was dissapointed at the quality of the Cgi in the transformation. Sailor moon is a legend, if cgi is going to be used it better be as good looking as pretty cure transformations or better, not worse

I'm really not that bothered by it.

I actually don't mind the CG in the animations.... what I don't like is that they did a cop out and just rehashed the 90s animations and just redid them in cg.  Why not something new?  I get that its in part to have nods towards the old anime and all but at least PGSM had new transformations (and i really liked them, Venus had the best one!!)

I think its sad when a French magical girl show has more entertaining and pretty transformations than Crystal...And these are CLEARLY inspired by Sailor Moon and Precure and its better than SMC. D:

Now that's how you do it!!!! I don't mind GC in transformation as long as if it's animated right and blends in well with the 2D. 

I hate to say this when you look back at Crystal 20 years from now the transformations are so going to look out dated. Heck they look outdated to me now. 

Brit, what is this show? I am highly interested. Are there English subs?

maybe because they have a small budget. because stuff like CGI in Disney movies is very beautiful and alot of detail.

You can make great animation with a low budget.
