| Hi! welcome to our first "how to post tutorial" This tutorial is about the different functions you have when editing/creating a post. Let's start with the basics. We have two ways to post: One is Quick reply/postQuick reply/post is the tiny box you have at the end of a thread with not much options, just the basics. And New replyIs the option down the quick post, represented by Neo Queen Serenity's crownNote: remember, you have 2 options here, the first one " New Thread" represented by Eternal Sailor Moon broochAnd New Reply. They might be side by side, BUT, when you want to add a c omment to a already created post, you MUST click " New reply" because, New Thread, is going to create a NEW topic in the forums. As you can see, when you click, New reply, you get a whole NEW window with all full forum options available. Both options do the same, so use whichever you find comfortable. Now let's explain each and every button we have. most forums have the same options, but it might vary, for example, some forums let you use "Marquee", or has a button called "Marquee" but this forum is based on forumotion, so, options and probably names are different.
Let's meet our first group of buttons. Let's start with Bold - Code:
-
[b]Text here[/b] if you don't want to use the code, just, select the word/phrase you want to bold and click the B button and it will be bold automatically. Normally bold is used to empathize a word/phrase, depending what the topic is about Example I think, in my opinion, Sailor Moon is the best magical series because it makes me laugh
The next button is Italic - Code:
-
[i]text in the middle[/i] italic main function is to give a more cursive "font" layout, people use italic mostly in fanfictions, to explain the reader an action that is occurring in the story, of course, italic can be used for anything. ExampleHold it right there! - said Sailor Moon as she arrived with the other senshi
Next one is Underline text - Code:
-
[u]text here[/u] The word explains itself, this button underlines if i may be redundant your text.
The letter S is for Strike, the code for strike is - Code:
-
[s]text here[/s] It is used normally to " scratch" a word/phrase we find irrelevant to the topic. Example About Mamoru my first crush btw i hope he gets cool outfits in the new anime
Our next group of buttons, this groups are just for alignment [from left to right] Align to the left, center, align to the right, justify The best way to understand this options with with examples, let's start with the first button. Align to Left, code - Code:
-
text/img Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Curabitur condimentum hendrerit magna in imperdiet. Quisque urna odio, ultrices et laoreet. Center, code - Code:
-
[center]text/img[/center] Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Curabitur condimentum hendrerit magna in imperdiet. Quisque urna odio, ultrices et laoreet.
Align right, code - Code:
-
[right]text/img[/right] Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Curabitur condimentum hendrerit magna in imperdiet. Quisque urna odio, ultrices et laoreet.
Justify, code - Code:
-
[justify]text[/justify] This one, works best, when you have an extended paragraph, this does not work with images. - Quote :
- Normal paragraph
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Fusce blandit sagittis elit nec lacinia. Phasellus convallis aliquet lobortis. Duis eleifend ullamcorper mollis. Duis sed quam elit. Mauris luctus commodo lacus, vel egestas sapien tristique vel. Cras pharetra urna auctor ante euismod lacinia id pretium enim. Duis vel vehicula ante. Fusce consequat elit a tortor elementum quis elementum sem tempus.
Curabitur ornare nunc et augue ornare a semper nulla mattis. Fusce a tellus magna, sit amet pellentesque orci. Mauris sodales vehicula laoreet. In neque massa, lacinia facilisis iaculis at, ornare ut ligula. Nam purus purus, condimentum quis interdum a, condimentum in nulla. Cras consectetur nibh libero, tempor rutrum sapien. Nam bibendum lobortis porta. Nunc sit amet nisl felis, feugiat faucibus nisl. - Quote :
- Justified paragraph
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Fusce blandit sagittis elit nec lacinia. Phasellus convallis aliquet lobortis. Noticed how clean looks your paragraph now? Next groupFirst is List - Code:
-
[list] [*] [/list]. You need to know that this option only adds one
[*], so if you have a long list, you're going have to add more of this options.
Second option Ordered List, code for this one - Code:
-
[list=]text [/list] The default number is 1, that means " 1 list". If you change the number is not going to work.

| Third button is Break line - Code:
-
text[hr]text This creates a line that separates text. This is really helpful if you're posting a fanfiction. Something to highlight here, this is the only code that doesn't need to be closed like the others, what do I mean to close? If you notice, most of the codes have an opening [tag here] and an ending [/tag here], if you don't add the " /" at the end of a code, it will not work, but this code is the exception.
Next group First button Quote - Code:
-
[quote]text here[/quote] How to use properly this code - Quote :
- Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Suspendisse non leo urna. Pellentesque pulvinar consectetur turpis, at volutpat risus scelerisque at. In hac habitasse platea dictumst. Duis mollis convallis leo vel porta. Integer scelerisque accumsan aliquet.
If you want to quote a user from this forum - Code:
-
[quote="Username here"]Text here[/quote] - Haine wrote:

EXTRA!MultiquoteThis is an option the forum has, when you want to quote many users, is next to the "quote" button. How to use it?First, click the multiquote button of EACH person you want to quote (you can choose all the users you want, including from other pages of the same thread, the multiquote button will remain selected), you will notice how the button will change color. After you select all the post you want to quote, hit the NEW REPLY button
Second button, Code Example- Spoiler:
- Code:
-
Choose with --> for the graphic you want [ ] Avatar [ ] Animated Icon (AKA Animated Bumper] [ ] Icon (100x100) [AKA Bumpers] [ ] Signature [ ] Animated Signature Note: [size=14][color=red]-must provide imgs! -If you can provide the gif that would be better -If you have a video (youtube, vimeo, etc) whitch you want an animation from it, just tell me the me the minutes Example: Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2i5qkSxF60U Minutes: 7:15 - 7:18[/color][/size] [size=18]Extra[/size] [b]Nick[/b] [optional]: [b]Phrase[/b] [optional]: [b]Images and/or animated gif[/b]: [url=url of the image or gif]Img01[/url] ; [url=url of the image or gif]Img02[/url] ; [url=url of the image or gif]Img03[/url] [b]Video[/b]: [url=url video]Minutes: -- to --[/url] [b]Other[/b] [Specify]: Result- Spoiler:

Last button of this section is TableWorking with tables is confusing, that's why the forum have a special box to make things easy for you. Note: this works similar as HTML tables This means "how many rows do you need" This means "how many columns you need" Insert a new table - Code:
-
[table][/table] Add a row - Code:
-
[tr][/tr] Add a column - Code:
-
[td][/td] To explain how to use tables, I decided to choose 5 rows and 2 columns and this is the result
Next group First button is Host an imageThis one doesn't have code, is basically a tiny "photobucket" in the forums, is an easy way to upload pictures. i recommend not to upload heavy pictures, because i'm not sure how much space does it have. Second button is Image - Code:
-
[img]URL[/img]
Third button is Link - Code:
-
[url=]Name of your link[/url] or [url]link here[/url] The forum has an easy way to insert a link.
Fifth button is to insert Video - Code:
-
[youtube]video URL[/youtube]
Next group First button is Font Size - Code:
-
[size="number"]text[/size]
Second button is Color
Third button is Font
Now we have the option " Others" if you haven't checked we have this options there Index Exponent Spoiler - Code:
-
[spoiler]text/img [/spoiler] This is one of the most important codes, is used to hide information. I recommend, use this code when you're discussing new anime/tv show/doramathat is currently airing or if you're sharing a lot of information/images, people might get behind in episodes and if you spoil something big from the latest one, it would be rude. ExampleThis is some information I gathered, it might contain spoilers- Spoiler:
Usagi is SAILOR MOON!
Hidden - Code:
-
[hide]text[/hide] Horizontal scrolling - Code:
-
[scroll]Galaxy Cauldron[/scroll] Vertical Scrolling - Code:
-
[updown]Galaxy Cauldron[/updown] Random - Code:
-
[rand]add a number here[/rand] - Random number (1,4) :
- 3
This one is useful in RPG, when you're rolling a dice.
How to Link to Specific Post Within a Thread
Every thread's URL is displayed on your address bar when you're in the thread. But what if you want to link to a specific post within it? This is especially useful for creating index posts (typically in the first post of a thread).
What you need to do first is find the ID number of the post you want to directly link to. You can find this by hovering your cursor over either the Edit button (if it's your own post) or the Quote button (if it's someone else's post).
Then look on the bottom left where the URL of that link should show up. Alternatively you can also click the button and/or right-click and choose Copy Link Address and pasting it on Notepad or something.
See the number circled in red? That is that specific post's ID number.
Look up the URL of the thread in which the post is located. It should be in your address bar.
Now add that post ID number you found with a hashtag to the end of the thread's URL. For example, the URL of this thread is https://www.thegalaxycauldronforums.com/t4821-tutorials-every-post-option-explained. The ID number to this post as pictured above is 145074.
So you add that with a hashtag to the end of the original thread URL which makes: https://www.thegalaxycauldronforums.com/t4821-tutorials-every-post-option-explained#145074
And voilà, it leads to this specific post.

| Extra~ " Thanks" and " Reputation" This option are available in the forums, but they actually don't have an specific "function", but I'm going to explain the use, since is good to know for a future reference. In other forums, this is used as a point system, but as you all might know, we have a different point system here on GC. You might notice, in some threads, this button close to Multiquote and QuoteYou might see this in threads you create. If a user said something you like/find amusing/is useful/etc in a thread you created, you hit the " thanks" button, in a way of appreciation of taking time to see your post. You might ask, "but I already said thanks in a post, why do I need to do it here?", this is not necessary, but if you feel like it you could do it, but most users don't know that when you hit that button, the reputation of the user goes up, you can check this on your own profile. Another way to "give points" is hitting " +" button, you can fin this at the top-right side of your post/threadyou can hit that button in all the threads/post you want.
Each time you hit the " +" you give the user 1 point of reputation {And the bar goes green} Each time you hit " -" you'll remove 1 point of reputation {and the bar goes red} " Show/Hide Function" The forums has an option to hide and unhide the categories of the forum. The Categories are the seperations between each area of the forum. Example: "The Basic Stops of GC", "General Sailor Moon Discussion", "Community Billboard", etc. etc. Just hover your mouse over to the + or - sign on the right of the category header and click it, and you'll have an either minimized or expanded section! The forum saves your options so it stays the same every time you visit the forum! The show/hide function should look like this:
If you are NOT seeing these +/- signs then please try the following:
- Clear the forum cookies (which you can do by clicking this link) Warning this logs you out!
- Clear your browser history And cookies
- Make sure your browser is accepting cookies from The Galaxy Cauldron
- Update your browser! If you are using an older version it may not work.
- This is tested and proved to work in both Firefox and Chrome.

This function is basically allowing you to hide the text from guests/bots and the users that did not post in the topic yet. The hidden text always is visible to: admins, moderators of forum in which the post is placed. The hidden text always is replaced with a phrase "Hidden text/post to see" at the reply with quote . |
