I'm sure you've all seen the show or at least heard of it. It's called "What not to wear" and it comes on tlc. It can be pretty humorous at times based on some very drastic cases but the episode shown a few days ago literally offended me. There was a girl on the show who was I believe 26 years old and she was a sailor moon fan, gamer, and anime addict. She even spoke Japanese which she admitted she learned from watching sailor moon subbed. She was also sporting one of the new hot topic shirts that featured the inner senshi. The show went on, and they basically told her she's too old to like cartoons like that and that it can disturb other people and how she should get rid of all that stuff blah blah blah. This episode made me think of myself and how just wrong those people are for calling something that girl is passionate about "weird" and "distasteful". Can I get an amen from the choir? How does this make you feel? I just felt like sharing.

OH MY GOD! WHAT!? I WANT TO WATCH THIS EPISODE TO SEE A REAL-LIFE MOONIE!! XD


... but then I read the rest of the post. I have this problem sometimes.

I never wear my stuff in public, plus most of the people I know don't know I love Sailor Moon. I don't think it was right for them to tell her that. She's not like 40 & doing that. It's not just a cartoon for SO many people.

I agree with the fact that they shouldnt tell her that cartoons are for kids only. If you look back in the 40s and 50s cartoons like Tom and Jerry and the Looney Tunes were made for adults. So basically cartoons are made for everyone. It just depends on the creators chosen audience. Heck even Sponge Bob was made for an older audience until the movie came out. *shudders.*

I don't think they should made her get rid of those anime shirts . I feel like there's a time and place to wear those kind of clothes.

Amen! Those people have no right to tell her that! Since I get very passionate about stuff like this and have a lot of opinions, I'm going to tumblr to rant! Because I hate people like that! To me that show is basically

If they don't like you for you, moonie or not, they aren't worth your time

Ugh nothing is more annoying than when people act like adult fans of anime and whatnot are "wrong" and "childish". I mean really. Anime and cartoons aren't just for kids. Second of all, I'm pretty sure the larger population of adults are sitting here wishing that they could be kids again (and therefore that's why they pick on people like this girl). They're probably just jealous that she is brave enough to show off what she loves while the rest of the population just closets their inner child. Cartoons are timeless. This includes Sailor Moon. I mean, here we are, 20 years later and she's still alive and kicking.

How can her loves disturb people anyway? Oh yeah, it bothers the poor, jealous, closeted inner child adults.

Dishonor. Dishonor on them, dishonor on their cows, dishonor on their families! >.>

So I watched the episode and it really sounded like they were really telling her that her lifestyle was idiotic. Just because they don't understand this lifestyle, doesn't give them the right to look down on people who like these type of things. It was rather disturbing.

Ok so that episode is online..I tried to watch it...and I can't..The chick was like

"Are there Japanese games?"

I was like are you THAT culturally...STUPID?

It's so obvious that Japan and other countries have had an impact on American culture and some of their stuff is apart of our culture and is very popular! Is she living under a rock?

Also the girl who was having a "Fashion Intervention", I guess you can call it, didn't really seem that...bad or obsessed or whatever, until they started asking her questions...

grrrrr.....

I stand by my statement that as a general rule a large majority of people suck

A few minutes but, I'm not 100% sure how far but, its before the 1st commercial break when she starts talking about Sailor Moon and she wears the shirt

I get the feeling that this entire episode is like a big "pick on" episode. Like she's "wrong" for being who she is and dressing how she does. That's not cool. That's bullying.

I think that's what that whole show is about but, yeah they were basically belittling her interests.

Okay. I can't watch it. It makes me really sad. Like, sad for this world. Are people that mean and pathetic now-a-days that they have to pick on people (like her)? Publicly I might add? I mean, I only watched a few minutes of it but it just feels like they're just bullying her for being who she is. Anjyu has a right to be a bit offended and anyone else for that matter that is too. I'm offended. Cause this is wrong.

Wow. I'm not a huge fan of this show because while I do believe some people need help fashion wise...i don't think its right to belittle people like they do on this show.

however most of this is all signed contracts and these people know whats going to happen to them and its all basically acting and for camera and ratings BUT I DIGRESS.

I think we should all send formal complaints to TLC about the show. How awful!

You know what also bothers me...its not that she should get rid of all her clothes that she loves... I mean, I have two different warddrobes basically. My nice, sorta fashionable clothes (mostly for work or going out) and my jeans and tshirts (my nerdy tshirts)...

You can be both fashionable and nerdy at the same time. Its not black and white. :/

^ I have the exact same thing, maybe instead of having her get rid of all her "geeky" stuff maybe they could have helped her with adding some variety instead :p

That exactly. As much as I am a slouch, I realize that when I go to work I have to dress presentably. Some people just do not know how to do that and it can tamper job abilities and such. So yes, I think it is perfectly fine to help some one gather some variety in their wardrobe.

However, every gal needs her geeky and shuffly clothing. Especially if it's their Moonie garb. I hope she did not throw those clothes away!
