Ok this is for where you can post videos or tutorials of doing Sailor Moon inspired make up. It doesn't have to be just Sailor Moon, it can be of the rest of the Senshi too. Also, if you ever do any make up looks, feel free to post pictures or a video. ^_^
I'm sure many of you have already seen Michelle Phan's video, but its one the most well known ones on youtube. If you haven't seen it, you need to watch it! The make up can be applied for other anime looks too with some adjustments. Plus I really adore Michelle Phan's videos.
These next videos are by vintageortacky. She has a BUNCH of videos. She's doing a Sailor Moon series. She even did looks inspired by the cats! They are really fun and bright colored looks. She has lots of other fun and loud looks too if you want to check them out. Here is her Youtube Channel. I'm going to post a couple videos then the rest will be links so I don't kill people's computers trying to load them all. Also some of these have some long intros of her just talking so uh, you can skip that. lol
Tuxedo Mask (this is more artsyish than a wearable look) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUJ5DyPqfwE
It looks like she hasn't done the Sailor Moon one yet, she's been making these over a couple of years along with her other videos. If you like this, I recommend you subscribe!
This is just a random one I found and haven't watched it all yet, but I liked the look so I'm posting it too.
Anyway, feel free to contribute!

I don't really understand the Michelle Phan hate. I've heard about some of the drama around her and what not and how some claim she's stolen make up ideas, etc. But that doesn't really bother me because I watch all of the make up gurus that I find. I don't always like her looks, but her more recent stuff has been really nice. Regardless if you hate her, her Sailor Moon tutorial is really good and really easy to change up if you don't like certain elements of it.
Another good guru is klairedelys. She does really pretty and amazing artistic make up. Unfortunately I don't think she's done anything Sailor Moon related or else I would have put her here due to the fact that I think she is amazing. Same goes for Bubzbeauty.

Haha, thanks. Some of these looks by vintageortacky, I think you can tone down for a more everyday look. I really want to get a nice eye palette (like the 88 coastal scents one. There is also the E.L.F. 100 palette that i've seen decent reviews on and its only $10! But the coastal scents is around $20 and is apparently a bit more pigmented) that has lots of those bright colors. Right now my eye shadows are mostly neutral with some brights here and there and mostly in pink cause I love pink.
I say we can also leave this open to make-up discussion too, but I guess to keep it on topic, try to either post videos or make up ideas for SM stuff. We can talk about cosplay make up too since some of these you can apply to a Sailor Moon cosplay outfit.

Michelle Phan doesn`t have any skills, she gave very dengerous tips (some of her DIY and thing like popping millia around your eye area with a needle... yeah) and actually no cosplayers would do a makeup like that. First of all it looks ridiculous, second not everyone can sport a white eyeliner. +all her tutorials are super messy and I just hate her statements (like lancome not testing on animals etc. -.-) And actually she did stole a lot of make up ideas, (especially from manwomanfilm) .. lol rant over
It`s actually pretty funny, none of the senshi wears makeup at all (and why would they?) but I always thought that if they did, Usagi would wear water proof makeup because she`s crying a lot and Minako would replicate makeup from idols lol

If I were to do make-up to LOOK like one of the senshi for cosplay, I'd maybe use circle lenses and false eyelashes, but not the really dramatic ones. That and just some basic stuff to either soften or sharpen your face accordingly.
(I'd make mine look rounder for Minako and Usagi, sharper for Michiru and Rei...for example.) Oh, but Puu wears make-up, so I guess you'd want to match that haha.

Well I don't understand the messy statement (maybe explain it better?) and I'm able to sport the white eyeliner but thats probably because i have very light fair skin.
On the other hand, if it makes you feel better, I do prefer bubz over michelle. Bubz is more down to earth, imo. Plus she's cute and i love her accent.
But its really not about what make up the Senshi would wear, its more make up looks inspired by them.
For cosplay, imo, I think make up in a must. In essence, you are putting on a performance for the public so you've gotta look your best, both guys and girls. I was on flag team and I also know with dance teams, flashy make up in a must. Especially since people are usually seeing you from far away.
I've seen people who don't wear make up for cosplay and in pictures, skintones come out flat or they are shiny from the flash. Plus their features are dull and you can't see them that great. It's not about putting on make up because you are insecure about yourself and so on, but its to enhance the look. Also since cons you are seeing people a bit more up close, don't whore it up either. lol Unless its a cosplay that requires that type of make up. If you were to cosplay the senshi, I would suggest wearing good foundation and maybe carry a powder compact and those oil blotting things during the day to touch up. Not too much done on the eyes, maybe eyeliner and some shadow to brighten your eyes a bit, and a natural lip color, unless you're the outer senshi.
But anyway, i was just finding more inspired make up looks, not necessarily for cosplay. Just to wear for fun.

Of course most good cosplayers wear make up, however they don`t overdo the white eyeliner etc because it looks silly and messy. (Michelle`s makeup was made for cosplay) I personally have somewhat tanned skin, and white eyeliner looks ridiculous on me. Also, some eye shapes don`t look good with it.. The problem with phan`s tutorials is that she`s making them all on her and won`t show what will work on other skin tones and eye shapes etc. like other gurus. Anyways why am I ranting ahahah XDD

Now thats something I can agree with! But most other make up gurus I watch don't usually do looks on others as well...if you know any that do, send them my way. I love watching make up tutorials. Its like my favorite thing to do on youtube. I hardly ever try them though. XD

Omg! Totally! I've yet to find one on youtube for the villains. I think doing the Amazon Trio and Amazoness Quartet would be really fun cause of all their crazy colors. :3

Ohhh man I will definitely have to try that, then! I'll look through my make-up, see what I got. (Probably no tutorial videos from me right now...not until I get over my dear of talking on mic.)

You could do like some gurus do and not talk on a mic and just have text instructions. Cute Polish did that for her early videos, then she finally spoke and it was the voice of a goddess. Lol, srsly, i think she has an amazing voice and was wondering why the hell she never had spoken before.
Or you could do a picture tutorial! I've seen those on blogs before. I followed a Bayonetta one once. If anything, post pics of the finished look. ^_^

I could do that, no problem. O: Maybe start with photos, and move up from there... I feel like I am not quite confident enough to get everything right on video.
Halfway through "OOPS eyeliner everwhar" and then raging at myself...not good fo a tutorial video. :U

I love this Etsy site! I haven't ordered anything from here yet, but I do say, $5 for mineral make up?! That's fantastic! Plus, she does Sailor Moon inspired collections that are utterly drool worthy and are very much on my wish list.

Reviving this thread a bit because I found another chick doing Sailor Moon make up. All her related links are all anime character looks too. I haven't watched them yet. I think I like it. It could be toned down for an everyday look too. The girl is pretty cute as well. Her wig is not styled that great, but its not about that, its about the make up look.
She has one for Eternal Sailor Moon and Serenity too.

^ this. I love Michelle Phan, she is a total sweet heart and I don't understand the hate at all. I didn't know about the "drama" but i don't believe it until i see the videos where she "stole" from. And she is not just telling us how to put some make up on, she is teaching how to take care of your skin AND other stuff like hair, shoes, etc. that's what I absolutely love about her videos.

I don't really remember where I saw it, but somehow I had stumbled onto someones blog or youtube page or something where she/he had links to other videos that she stole ideas from. But to me, i've noticed with a lot of make up gurus, they all do something similar at one point, mainly due to the request of their followers. The only real make up guru on youtube that I feel has the most original stuff is Klair de lys, but she approaches make up as an art form and usually does these amazingly over the top make stuff. Some of it is not daily wear, some of it is. Michelle normally does daily wear looks, except for some of her halloween costume looks and such. Oh well. I like them all really. The videos are all professionally made, i think some people just hate that she was working for Lancome (i don't know if she still is anymore, i haven't seen a lancome video on her channel in a while) and i think some people were in an uproar about it because apparently Lancome tests on animals? I'm not 100% sure. :/ Ah well.

At some point everyone can be blamed of stealing an idea somewhere, even if it not really the truth. Every artist, in every kind of art form may be inspired by someone else and from there, they begin developping their own style.
If I were to realise someone who would do similar things to mine, I would think it is actually flattering, it would mean they actually like what I'm doing and consider my works as inspiring! Wow! It would be okay with me as long as they don't reproduce with exactitude my works claiming they are their own creations afterwards.
So maybe did Michelle Phan get some inspiration somewhere and used some tips she thought would be interesting showing other people in her own way. Maybe the basic idea was similar at first but is totally different at the end... Anyhow, if she really would have stolen ideas, she would have been sued I guess. And sometimes it happens to have similar ideas without even knowing anyone else had that same idea so... We could talk about it for hours but...
I makeup artist myself, think Michelle Phan has an interesting way of talking about skincare routine which is so important for the realisation of a fresh perfect makeup. She also clearly shows each step of the makeup she will do, gives good easy tips which makes everyone being able to reproduce it at home afterward with some practice of course. Plus, she is super cute!
