Has anyone read the book Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur S. Golden? What are your thoughts?

I have seen the movie, but I have had mixed feelings about reading it. Why? Because the movie was long, although I loved it, but I can't imagine reading it.

The book is equally as good, it is long, one of the longest books I think I have read, but its worth it.

Is it similar to the movie?

I really enjoy this book as a dramatic romance. However, I am bothered by the inaccuracies and a lot of the conflict that occurred after the book was released. The author and his primary "source" had a lot of post-publication disagreements.

You may want to read Geisha, A Life (sometimes titled Geisha of Gion) by Mineko Iwasaki--her own memoir, released in response to allegations surrounding Memoirs of a Geisha.

I definitely like Memoirs of a Geisha as far as just enjoyment, but it's definitely not a real glimpse into what living that life in that time period was like. I wish the author hadn't alleged that it was.

Omg I love that book- I have it and read it last summer. I absolutely loved it.

I've had a copy of the novel for the longest time-I haven't read it yet. I'll get to it eventually.

I remember seeing commercials of this on TV when it was first coming out, and a snippet of the movie, but it doesn't interest me.

I read the book and watched the movie. Memoirs of a Geisha is a very nice book to read and a very good movie to watch, but I only see them as fiction though because both the book and movie do have some inaccurate information about Geisha. I am currently reading Mineko Iwasaki's book Geisha, a Life aka Geisha of Gion and it's a really good book too.
