Hmm I would suggest maybe the original Mugan or maybe one of the Stars Musicals (Sailor Stars the original or kaiteban, Eien densentsu original or kaitiban)
Edit: if you could find it Shin Kaguya shima densentsu might be a good one to.

I think that it all depends on what you want to see, mooniegirl .
Stars and Mugen both follow the plot of the manga/anime storylines but Shin Kaguya is the first remake musical of the earlier Kaguya musicals and it has a completely original plot and villains.
I personally love Shin Kaguya <3.

I vote Shin Kaguya Shima Densetsu. It's one of the more well developed Myus with an easy enough storyline for anyone to watch even if they have never seen Sailor Moon or have the basic knowledge of Sailor Moon.
A lot of the earlier ones, especially the Dracul series, is hard to follow unless you know about each season or arc from the anime/manga. Dracul is more confusing if you don't have previous Myu experience and a lot of Biblical references as well. Definitely not one I would recommend for a start no matter how much I love the Dracul series.
Even then with the Dracul series, there were few references to the first stage musicals. More specifically Last Dracul Jokyoku is a more developed remake of Sailor Moon S - Usagi Ai no Senshi e no Michi/the two unrecorded Sailor Moon S Myus.

Sorry double posting.
Also AVOID: Mugen Gakuen Kaiteiban, Starlights Ryuusei, and Kakyuu-ouhi Kourin until AFTER you've watched all or nearly all of:
ANZA Moon Fumina Moon Miyuki Moon Black Lady original (you already saw the Kaiteiban) Ai no Sanctuary Mugen Gakuen original Shin Kaguya Shima Densetsu
It doesn't matter whenever you watch Shin Kaguya's Kaiteiban, but AVOID: Mugen Gakuen Kaiteiban, Starlights Ryuusei, and Kakyuu-ouhi Kourin until AFTER you've watched all or nearly all of what is listed above.
Trust me, when I say that it will make you appreciate Myu more without watching them early or mid-way through watching the Myu. Especially with Starlights Ryuusei, you'll appreciate the little stuff and nearly everything about it even more if you save it as one of the last ones to watch.
Others can feel free to disagree with me since this is my own personal opinion.

I wouldn't know about Kakyuu-Ohi I still haven't finished it I have only gotten through the first song. but yes I have to agree with the other two.
Edit: I would also avoid the dark kingdom musicals also they were pretty good but they are also pretty slow so yea.

Basically avoid those musicals until the very end because of a certain *grumblegrumblegrumble*Uranus*grumblegrumblegrumble*.
Like Ari, I'm doing this:
while trying to get through Kakyuu-Ouhi. I absolutely refuse to watch Mugen Gakuen Kaiteiban. I really only watched Starlights Ryuusei for a certain actress who came back ^^ and grew to love the story, the set, and the songs. Still could have done without a certain duo though... *grumblegrumblegrumble*

*hugs Air and Ayu*
Kakyuu Ouhi Kourin has a plot similar to Eien Densetsu Myus but I see Kakyuu as a more incoherent plot wise and it may confuse you especially if you have not seen Eiens before watching it. Both Mugens are not very strong plot wise but they're some of the most manga influenced Myus, not including the Planet Grim side plot. Mugen Kaiteban has, in my opinion, weaker cast while the original Mugen had a better one: par example three long running performers (Nao, Yuuka and Megumi) and one a bit shorter running actor (Kenji) who all graduated in that Myu.
The Starlights Ryuusei Densetsu Myu had awesome Shitennou moments but it is not one of the strongest ones plot wise either. I personally see the reused songs of Starlights not very fitting for the cast while the new songs that were composed for this myu are great.
If you think about watching either of Shin Kaguyas I recommend you to watch the original one first. The original Shin Kaguya had a better cast than the Kaiteban (in my opinion) and Shin Kaguya Kaiteban is the one and only Myu that has not been subbed, at least no that I know. So if you would rather have subtitles, the original Shin Kaguya would be a better option of the Shin Kaguya Myus.
These are only my personal opinions, though.

Yep! It doesn't say Kaiteiban in the opening title and like Tsuki said it's the only one of the Shin Kaguaya that has been subbed so far.

thanks neptune I will use that in the future. I decided to go with the 2nd one I posted but will watch the other one later this week maybe. they look very similar. Some of the names are similar too. What is the difference between a regular seramyu and a Kaiteiban.

Kaiteban is the revision of the original and will have some scenes changed, new songs added, and quit often will have a few actor changes (Sara to Yuhka)

Kaiteban is basically a remake of the earlier musical. They have some changes in the storytelling when compared to the first versions and these are usually made to make the musical both easier to follow and to make the story flow better. Some include more changes than the others but all are different from the originals . One of the changes that happens in all Kaitebans is the clothing as the casual stage clothing follows the season when the show is performed (usually Kaitebans were played in winter so that means winter clothes instead of summer ones but exceptions like Kaguya Kaiteban which was performed in summer, are found). Some cast members are also different in Kaitebans than in the original versions.

Miyuki stars in ALL of the Dracul Musicals. If you want to just watch one, then watch Last Dracul (DO NOT WATCH THE OTHERS UNLESS IN ORDER).
Last Dracul is a good one, not hard to follow, and can be watched on its own. However, I will say the second one, Transylvania no Mori can be very hard to follow at times. It took me a good couple of watchings to understand a few things plus there's a ginormous slew of Biblical and Judaic references (it helps a bit if you understand these references). But if you do want to watch all of Miyuki, her four musicals are the ones that you REALLY need to watch in order cause they all follow a storyline.
You would watch them in this order: [2000 Winter] Shin / Henshin - Super Senshi e no Michi - Last Dracul Jokyoku New/Transformation - The Path to Become the Super Warrior - Overture of Last Dracul (just a search for Last Dracul Jokyoku will do or go to Seramyuantics.net)
[2000 Summer] Kessen / Transylvania no Mori - Shin Toujou! Chibi Moon wo Mamoru Senshi-tachi Decisive Battle / Transylvania's Forest ~ New Appearance! The Warriors Who Protect Chibi Moon ~
[2001 Winter] Kessen / Transylvania no Mori (Kaiteiban) - Saikyou no Kataki Dark Cain no Nazo Final Fight / The Forest of Transylvania (Revision) - The Secret of the Most Powerful Enemy, Dark Cain - (this one is not only a revision but can also be considered a bit of a sequel, its plot is a bit easier to follow than the first TnM but you should STILL WATCH BOTH.)
[2001 Spring] Last Dracul Saishuu Shou - Chou Wakusei Death Vulcan no Fuuin Last Dracul Final Chapter - The Seal of the Super Planet Death Vulcan

The whole Dracul arc is awesome and I really do recommend you to watch all Miyuki's musicals when you have time Moonie . Last Dracul took many elements from the original S Myu but is still very unique thanks to the plot changes, modification and new additions. And Miyuki's Tabidachi from last Dracul is, in my opinion, the best version of the song. Like Brit said, Last Dracul is the easiest one of the Dracul Myus to follow and also the only one that can be watched separately although it may make you want to watch the other Dracul Myus right away. (That is what it did to me, at least)
I see Transylvania no Mori as a bit more darker musical than its Kaiteban but like Brit mentioned, Transylvania no Mori Kaiteban is easier to follow. These two musicals actually had quite different storytelling thanks to the changes that were made to the Kaiteban version. If you want to see Hikari as Vampir (she does not appear in Last Dracul although her character is mentioned) I recommend you to watch all four Dracul Myus in order since Hikari played Vampir in the three later ones ^^.
The whole Dracul saga seems to appear as the darkest storyline of any version of SM, at least to me.

Thank you so much for this thread. <3 I watched a few of the musicals in OP's post, and I'm completely in love now.
I do have a question, though: this morning, I watched Sailor Stars... And it was awesome! However, the way it ended left me thinking that there just HAS to be more to the story... So, I'm wondering, does Sailor Stars have a sequel?
