| It's always fun to share some of the spirit ( ghost pun, what ghost pun) when the chill autumn winds blow the fallen leaves around! Is there a particular film that you like to cozy up to? Or a book that gives you just the right combination of chills and thrills? What helps get you in the mood for ghosts and goblins in the glow of moonlight? Maybe you'll help someone add to their reading or watching list—or perhaps you'll discover that your all time favourite is someone else's ultimate spooktacular, too! So, tell us what you like watching and reading when the ghouls are out! |

| I always love reading steven king books around this time of year, as well as Edgar Allen Poe. I also have a habit of listening to creepypastas on youtube. As for movies, I get a kick out of watching really stupid ones. Like B rated horror flicks, or movies that came off as B rated or comical despite that not being their target. You want the worlds worst horror film? Acting so obnoxious it's funny, so bland that I saw it at age 9 and it put me to sleep? Manos the Hands of fate. You can watch the entire thing on youtube here. No idea what it's original rating was, but lets just say a friend of mine decided to put it on her cousins who were 5 and 7 and wanted a spooky movie, and the seven year old looked at her and said "When's it supposed to get scary?" Also gotta love the stupidity that is birdemic. Another movie that I tend to enjoy and I can never find anyone to watch with me is killer clowns from outer space. It's just so far out there and hilarious. In regards to actual horror films, I enjoy watching classic slasher flicks, mainly the originals, but those break the pg13 rule so I'm not sure if I can actually list them XD. Pretty sure everyone's heard of them, though. I actually have a lot of favorite horror flicks films that are rated R (even some I honestly thought weren't), and it's getting hard to find ones that aren't. I love the Blair witch project, though I haven't seen this years sequel/remake yet. Dead silence is also another favorite, despite the movie making things horribly obvious. The grudge franchise, I have no idea how it skirted by with only a PG-13 rating. The first two scare me to no end more then some of the R rated ones. I also love Alfred Hitchcock's work, though I haven't seen all of them. The birds was actually based of a short story that he got the rights to, and it is almost a completely different story. Rear window is more of a mystery then horror, but man I love that film. Another oldie but a goodie is The Bad Seed, though I cannot find a rating for it since it was originally from 1956. It will always give me chills. |

| My family has a tradition of watching "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown!" every year, so that is pretty special to me. But I gotta say my favorite Halloween movies are the Scary Godmother movies and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Cosmos has good taste, I also really like Dead Silence! Some other good ones to watch are Coraline, ParaNorman, and Corpse Bride.
For shows, if you want a little something short, Stranger Things is essential! Channel Zero is also really good, but it only has three episodes out so far. If you want something a bit bigger to bite into, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is my all-time favorite!! Though there is the original movie if you don't want to undertake the seven season show. |

| Like Eidolune said, Coraline and It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown are fantastic. And I haven't seen The Nightmare Before Christmas yet but I hear good things and it seems like it would be good. Now for my personal suggestion, the CRIMINALLY underrated "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" segment of the Disney compilation movie The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (it's the second segment in the movie, though Ichabod is listed first). If you want, you can watch the first part, but it's more... Christmas-y, really. Anyway, back to the "Sleepy Hollow" part. The last act of that film is some of the most well done tension and buildup I've seen in any movie, PERIOD. With no spoken dialogue. It's great. |

| OH, that reminds me!! I almost forgot Over the Garden Wall. It has more of an autumn feel to it, but it becomes very eerie and there's Halloween bits at the end. Also, it's beautifully animated. |

| Regarding movies, I honestly believe you need some Scooby-Doo cartoons to have a perfect Halloween, the best movie in my opinion being Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island, the rest being quite hit-or-miss (I haven't seen everything, especially the last ones). The original cartoon series is always a fun watch.
I second Cosmos-Hime's recommendation of Manos if you want some cheapness in your life (the Manos costume is a work of art). I'd also like to recommend Plan 9 from Outer Space, which is in my opinion the quintessential poor man's sci-fi flick of the 50s. Those familiar with Tim Burton's Ed Wood probably know it, but it's much more fascinating to watch the original masterpiece. Originally shot in 1956 (to be released in 1959 because Ed Wood couldn't find a distributor), it would be Bela Lugosi's final role, which led Ed Wood to find a new actor to replace him in the middle of the shooting. Because of that, you can see two different actors playing the same role, which can be quite hilarious because they tried to hide it thinking we wouldn't notice it. Nevertheless, it's quite fascinating to see that the director was really passionate about what he did, and in a way, it's a shame he never had a bigger budget to make his films.
And, well, I'll avoid more violent flicks because they're beyond the PG-13 rating, so I'll talk about old movies if you like that kind of atmospheric thing.
Wiene's Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari (1920) is a really impressive piece of atmosphere with astonishing visuals and backgrounds. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) is a thrilling story about aliens invading Earth and replacing humans with clones. The remake of the same name, released in 1978, is also really great with memorable sound effects; both are worth watching for different reasons in my opinion (the ending of the 1978 one is stunning). Dreyer's Vampyr (1932) is pretty cool too, very good-looking.
For something in the vein of Hitchcock films, there's Les Diaboliques (1955) by Clouzot. The funny thing is that Hitchcock originally wanted to buy the rights of the book to make an adaptation, but Clouzot did it before him and we got this instead.
I'm also a big fan of the original Twilight Zone series, and basically any episode (especially the first 3 seasons) can be good for a cozy Halloween session. They really had a lot of ideas and executed them perfectly. |

| Until Dawn is a really good horror game on the PS4. ( You can also watch it like a movie if you don't have a ps4 like I did ) There's also the entire Resident Evil Series. I have the Origins collection with includes the very first Resident Evil and Resident Evil 0 and have enjoyed both so far. |

| I don't know if this book holds up, but Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark scared THE PANTS OFF OF ME WHEN I WAS LIKE 9. I know some of you have to remember this because somehow tons of kids have read this. Maybe it was just the usual scary story book to buy for children? As for classics: Are You Afraid of the Dark is always a good one, and I'm partial to The Haunted Train episode of Hey Arnold x_x (that episode is STILL scary). For books, I always enjoy a good mystery, especially around Halloween. Right now I'm listening to Agatha Christie's Hallowe'en Night, but some good scary ones are Dracula, which has a TON of suspense and legitimately made me feel spooked, and Frankenstein, which is a little sadder and makes you reflect on the capacity for cruelty that humanity has. Overall, good spooky books! |

I agree with [Only admins are allowed to see this link] !!Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island is the best Scooby-Doo movie and I always considered it a must-watch for Halloween do to its horror nature .Seriously this film is horror .Don't watch it before going to bed . Other than that I'll watch some alien documentaries late on night .That's how the TV treats me for Halloween night haha |

| So many great suggestions so far! I always watch Nightmare Before Christmas. I love that I always wind up watching it twice a year, during Halloween and then later for Christmas. It covers two holidays, after all. My husband gets really into watching horror movies, but there aren't many I actively enjoy enough to recommend. |

| Concerning movies aside from what was already suggested in here; Tales from the Crypt? I really love both the Live-Action and Animation TV show!
Perfectly to watch during Halloween Celebration! |

| I'm sharing few interesting articles with a Halloween theme to them!
Atlas Obscura - When Tomatoes Were Blamed For Witchcraft and Werewolves Very interesting "history of tomatoes" that ties in with witch hunts and werewolves! I didn't realize that the tomato had such a past of being feared.
Mollie Makes - 10 Non-Spooky Halloween Crafts Some of these Halloween-themed craft ideas look really cute! Skull pom-poms, glittery gourds, and the candy necklace are my favourite!
New York Times - Boo? Halloween Used to Be About Finding True Love I didn't realize that common games like bobbing for apples were actually related to predictions of romance. Given the current "candy and spookiness" focus, it's hard for me to imagine what it must have been like when Halloween was a source of future romance! |
