Physical Description: Hotaru is a frail and slender girl, small for her age. She has short dark hair cut bluntly about halfway down her neck and bangs cut straight across at the level of her thin eyebrows. Her large round eyes are a brilliant violet with a milky depth. Her pale skin is typically covered; she favors long sleeves even in warmer weather.

During the S Infinity arc, Hotaru typically wears her school uniform for Mugen Academy or a high-necked long-sleeved black dress with a short skirt, sometimes accented by a dark gray shawl fastened by a white rose brooch. Her wardrobe contains mostly garments in dark colours, frequently black or navy. Almost all of her outfits include opaque tights.

During the Stars arc, she frequently wears a yellow cardigan over a white collared blouse paired with a purple skirt with pink trim at the hem. Her outfits are now brighter and more cheerful than her attire during S Infinity.

Personality: Hotaru is a quiet girl with a depth to her thoughts. She is precocious for her age, but not self-centered or conceited. She is serious and stoic, able to keep calm in even desperate situations, but frequently unable to communicate her feelings or moods. Her quietness and seriousness is often mistaken for harshness or boredom. Years of bullying and isolation have made her timid and afraid of connecting with others. When she is comfortable in someone else's presence, however, her sweet disposition and agreeable nature come to light.

Although Hotaru is able to keep calm and provide detailed analysis for situations, she frequently misses cues for jokes, cultural references, or ironic tone. She can be easily blind-sighted by sudden changes or occurrences, as her focus sometimes causes her to lose peripheral vision of the bigger picture at hand.

Hotaru treasures her friends beyond anything else in her life because she remembers so many years of painful loneliness, outcast from her classmates and acquaintances. She is devoted to all those that she is lucky enough to have in her life. However, she still struggles with cultivating new relationships. It is difficult for her to communicate effectively with strangers, both verbally and nonverbally.

Hotaru enjoys reading, particularly topics related to the sciences and classic poetry. She is able to comprehend information at a much higher level than most girls her age and her tastes in the written word reflect that. She also enjoys watching certain televised sports, such as running and the Olympics. She has a small collection of beautiful art-glass table lamps, and is not opposed to acquiring more. She hopes to become a nurse someday.

Any Unique Abilities/Skills: Hotaru has a strange ability to heal minor injuries via touch. After her rebirth, she experiences limited visions of the future and is able to share these visions with others. She is also very intelligent and has sharp analytical ability.

History: When Hotaru was a small child, her mother, Keiko, was killed in a laboratory accident during one of her father's experiments. Hotaru herself was seriously injured during the accident. Her father, Souichi, saved his daughter from death by making a devil's bargain with the alien entity torn into this world during the accident. In exchange for Hotaru's life, Professor Tomoe and Hotaru became hoste for Germatoid and Mistress 9, beings from the Tau Star System. Professor Tomoe's life work was then exclusively to serve Master Pharaoh 90 and lay the path for his arrival and conquest of the Earth and the Solar System.

As hoste for Mistress 9, Hotaru suffered seizures and blackouts during which she couldn't remember her own actions. She acted like a different person; sometimes she threatened or hurt others in her vicinity. She also possessed the ability to heal minor injuries at a mere touch, which others found frightening. This isolated her from her classmates and acquaintances. The young girl spent most of her time alone and depressed.

When her father's assistant, Kaori, began living with the family, Hotaru's troubles increased. She suspected Kaori of trying to replace her dead mother in their lives. As Professor Tomoe continued to withdraw into his work, Hotaru's precarious family life fractured further. Her relationship with Kaori grew more hostile and strained.

And then, one fateful day, a young girl with pink hair and a brilliant star in her heart lost her hat. Hotaru was amazed to meet someone who wasn't afraid of her. Someone who didn't shy away, even after witnessing one of Hotaru's episodes where she couldn't remember what she had done or said. Hotaru was afraid to get close to someone else--afraid that she'd be abandoned again. But Chibi Usa was bold and fearless. Chibi Usa's love and trust was pure and sweet, and slowly the two became good friends. This first friendship was the most precious thing Hotaru had ever known.

As the Death Busters continued to search for the Talismans, Mistress 9 developed as the more dominant entity in Hotaru's body, until she completely consumed Hotaru. But it was her own feelings about that friendship and her dear friend that kept Hotaru from being lost to the overwhelming power of Mistress 9. When Chibi Usa's life was in danger, Hotaru risked everything to save her treasured friend. With that final act, the girl who was Tomoe Hotaru died.

Sailor Saturn awakened shortly after Hotaru's death, called forth by the imminent end of the world. She faced off against Master Pharaoh 90 to prevent that awful fate from befalling the Earth. Sailor Saturn gave her life in the fight against that evil entity.

It was only by the awesome power of the Silver Crystal that she was reborn. Sailor Moon made it possible for Hotaru to have another chance at life. This time, it was a life where she was no longer vessel for a dark force. It was a life where she was no longer a feared and unwelcome guest to the other Sailor Soldiers. She was finally part of their team.

Hotaru was then raised by Sailors Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. She grew at a rapidly accelerated rate as her body adjusted itself back to the age she had been before the threat of the Death Busters. It was then that she was able to fight alongside the other Sailor Soldiers against the threats that were to follow. Although she lost her life to the power of Sailor Galaxia, Sailor Saturn always believed in the brightest star, Sailor Moon. Hotaru was reborn again after that final battle, to live yet again with her beloved friends and comrades.

(Note: There are a lot of timeline discrepancies for Sailor Saturn depending on the anime or manga version, and I've tried to include both versions as best I can with as little contradiction as possible in this history.)

She is younger than the other planetary princesses--aligning her age so that when Princess Small Lady Serenity is born she will be slightly closer in age to the heir. Unfortunately, this perfect world is merely a dream crafted by Queen Nehellenia.

Twisted Nightmares: In an alternate Dream arc, Sailors Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto must fight Queen Nehellenia, who has captured the other sailor soldiers. Hotaru has aged rapidly from a very young age to roughly appear to be 12 years old now that she has regained the ability to transform into Sailor Saturn. She must work with her teammates to defeat Queen Nehellenia and restore peace to Earth.

Senshi Fuku:
First Form: Sailor Saturn's sailor collar is a rich blue violet hue with no adornment. Her white bodysuit has large petal-shaped sleeves that fan out over her shoulders. Three petals are visible from the front side, and two are visible from the back. The chest bow on her uniform is a dark brownish red, with a glimmering pure heart crystal at the center of the bow. Her blue violet pleated skirt is attached to the white bodysuit just below a "v" shaped white padded waistband. At the small of her back, attached to the waistband, is a bow of the same dark brownish red as the bow on her chest. Her knee-high lace-up boots are the same blue violet. She wears elbow-length white gloves that end with three padded rolls of blue violet. The final padded roll at the edge of the glove flares slightly towards her elbow. Around her neck is a blue violet choker with a very small pure heart crystal at the front center. Her white earrings are shaped like the planet Saturn, an orb surrounded by a ring, and below the orb dangles a diamond-shaped charm. Her golden tiara has a white gem at the center.

Second Form: Sailor Saturn's uniform is the standard style for the super soldiers of the Solar System. Her blue violet sailor collar has a single white stripe along the edge. She wears a white bodysuit. The sleeves of the bodysuit consist of two rolls of white fabric and a final peaked cap sleeve of sheer violet. The bow on her chest is a dark brownish red with a large violet heart at the center. Her pleated skirt is blue violet, and it attaches to her bodysuit below a padded "v" shaped waistband. The bow at the back of her skirt is the same brownish dark red, but it is larger than before, with tails that end halfway down her thighs. Her elbow-length white gloves end with three padded rolls of blue violet. Her knee-high lace-up boots are blue violet, tied with white laces. The choker she wears is blue violet with a golden star at the center front. Her white earrings use the same Saturn-shape and diamond charm as before. Her golden tiara displays a white gem.

Third Form: For her final form, Sailor Saturn's collar is a deep violet with a single gold stripe along the edge. Her white bodysuit now has semi-transparent round puffed sleeves of pale violet, banded with two darker violet puffed bands. The bow on her chest is the same dark brownish red as before, now with a deep violet star at the center. Her full skirt is now two-tiered: the top tier is dark violet and the bottom tier is pale violet. The top of the skirt is banded with two ribbons--the top ribbon dark violet and the bottom ribbon pale violet. The ribbons slope down in a gentle "v" shape and meet at a golden star. At the small of her back is a large bow of pale violet, and from behind that bow there are two long, thin ribbons of dark violet that reach to her calves. Her white gloves are longer now, reaching above her elbows, and they end with three padded rolls of deep violet. Her tall white boots reach just below her knees, and they are adorned along the top edge with a dark violet ribbon that follows the "v" shaped edge. At the lowest point is a small golden star. The deep violet ribbon choker around her neck also slopes in a "v" shape and is marked with a small gold star. Her earrings are violet studs with violet stars dangling just below the studs. There is a violet star-shaped gem at the center of her golden tiara.

Realms of Influence: Destruction and Silence

Henshin/Transformation:
"Saturn Planet Power, Make Up!" (first form)
"Saturn Crystal Power, Make Up!" (second and third forms)
(Note: Sailor Saturn's only transformation phrase in canon is "Saturn Crystal Power, Make Up!" in the Dream arc of the manga. These transformation phrases are based on the other soldiers.)

Powers:
"Silent Wall!" (low) This maneuver creates an invisible protective barrier that is able to deflect energy or other attacks. Sailor Saturn requires the Silence Glaive to perform this attack and the protective area of the barrier's diameter is roughly the length of the Silence Glaive. It can only be maintained for a limited period of time.

"Silence Glaive Surprise!" (medium) Using the Silence Glaive, this attack sends an orb of brilliant violet light coursing towards the enemy. It causes physical and energy damage to the target. The blunt power of this attack is moderate, but it can be dodged or repelled.

"Death Reborn Revolution!" (very high) A flurry of violet ribbons unfurl from the Silence Glaive and an eerie stillness follows. A strong negative aura absorbs the powers and life forces of the enemy. Sailor Saturn is unlikely to survive using this attack, depending on on how powerful of an opponent she is targeting.

Sailor Saturn is also able to destroy the world by dropping her Silence Glaive. Her life is forfeit should she use this power.

(Note: I am approximating "Silence Glaive Surprise" to make it a useable attack, modeling it on the anime attacks of Sailors Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. There's also a lot of conjecture for "Death Reborn Revolution.")

Weapons or Magical Items:
Saturn Lip Rod: A short gray-violet rod with a golden bead at the bottom, topped with a heart of the same gray-violet, ringed in bright pink. Above the heart is a larger blue violet orb, diagonally bisected by a disc of the same colour. The orb is topped with a golden six-pointed star with the violet symbol for the planet Saturn glowing at the center. (Note: This was never featured in the anime or manga, but I imagine that if it theoretically existed it would fit with the established scheme for Sailor Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto's lip rods.)
Silence Glaive: A dark gray staff, taller than Sailor Saturn, topped with a large silver blade shaped like a vertically stretched backwards uppercase "G."
Saturn Crystal: A transparent heart-shaped crystal of pale violet that shines with a brilliant light.


Name: Mistress 9
Messiah of Silence

Outfit: When Mistress 9 is weak, she cannot take her true form. She looks exactly like Hotaru, although her eyes are blank and burn with a violet aura. Her low voice is muffled with radio static and her lips do not move when she speaks. In this state, she prefers to communicate through radio waves broadcast through speakers, rather than projecting it aloud.

In this state, she often wears a high-collared violet long-sleeved blouse with vertical black stripes. The sleeves are loose and sheer. They are gathered at her wrists by black bands. At her throat is a white medallion with a black star at the center. Over the blouse she wears a black sleeveless dress with a wide pale violet ruffle low across her chest and over her shoulders. The asymmetrical hemline of the dress reaches just above Hotaru's knees at the front but trails down behind her ankles. Another wide ruffle of pale violet fabric trims the edge of the skirt. At her waist is a dark blood red sash striped horizontally with black lines. It is tied in a large bow positioned slightly to her left front. The hanging tails of the sash are fanned out to an unbroken half-circle. There is a black star in the center of the bow and another black star just below, fastened above the end of the sash. She wears black opaque tights and simple black flats.

When fully awakened, Mistress 9 is physically older than Hotaru, with the appearance of a young woman in her early twenties. Her straight black hair is much longer as well, pooling on the floor around her feet in glossy strands. Her violet eyes are a darker hue. She wears violet lipstick. When she asserts her powers, the mark of a black star appears and glows on her forehead.

Her outfit consists of a narrow dark gray skirt that flares out around her ankles and drags along the floor. Her shoes, simple black pumps, cannot be seen. Mistress 9 wears a high-collared navy blue sleeveless vest that buttons just below her bust, left open in a deep revealing "v." The vest is adorned across the front with two strands of pearls fastened just above the swell of her chest and draped over to fasten at the edge of the armhole. The double strands are then draped across her upper arm, fastening at the back edge of the vest's armhole. The lower hem of the vest is shaped like petals, flaring across the top of her long skirt. She wears pearl earrings matching the details on her vest--three pearls dangling from each ear.

Powers:
Psychokinesis (low) Mistress 9's eyes glow menacing with a bright violet light, and her body seems to shimmer with a violet aura. Objects then move without any physical manipulation, usually breaking or otherwise being destroyed. Sometimes this can be used to physically or mentally injure other people. It can be released as a blast of power to force something away from Mistress 9's human body. This attack is very brief and limited to a close radius to Mistress 9's physical hoste. She is able to use this power without being fully awakened.

Spirit Hand (medium) She can focus her energy into a claw-like hand of transparent bright violet light that trails forth from her form and reaches into the body of the target. It can tear a Pure Heart Crystal from that person's heart or inflict minor physical or power damage. Mistress 9 is able to use this attack even when not fully awakened.

Dark Lightning (medium to high) Mistress 9 can summon bolts of black lightning-like energy that surge deadly power through her target. It can be dodged or avoided. She is able to summon this when not fully awakened, but cannot generate much power without draining herself to exhaustion.

Evil Hair (low) Mistress 9 is able to control her long hair like serpentine appendages that can spontaneously grow to unbelievable lengths. She is able to use it to strangle or otherwise wrap targets like spider's silk. It is possible for her to use the hair to wrap people or objects to other surfaces and then detach the hair from herself, where it hardens to a stone-like material. If her hair is cut, she can no longer move it and it falls away like shorn human hair.

RP Sample: Young Hotaru stared at the glowing figure that floated before her. The strange shape lit her still and silent room like the gentle lamps that had once filled the home of her previous childhood. There was no fear in the little girl's eyes, but no curiosity lurked there either. She was still and calm in the midnight darkness of her bedroom, even when awoken to face the transparent image of the thin girl in the sailor uniform. The one who looked just like her.

For several minutes, neither of them spoke. It was the glowing figure who broke the silence.

"It has been a long time, Hotaru," she said, the voice soft and light, and oh so very familiar. It was a voice Hotaru had heard so many times. A voice she knew explicitly. It was her own.

She said nothing.

"You must not forget," the glowing figure in the violet sailor suit continued.

Hotaru watched the white gloved fingers relax and then tighten around the tall staff topped with a curved blade. She could almost feel it in her own hand. She knew the weight and heft of the thing. She knew how many fingers she needed to balance it. She knew that if she lifted it from the shaft below the menacing blade, it would pivot effortlessly over the back of her right hand, the lower end of the staff fitting perfectly into her awaiting left hand.

"I have never forgotten," Hotaru whispered. Her violet eyes were clouded with memories.

The figure smiled faintly and reached forward with her free left hand, brushing transparent fingers that felt like nothing at all across Hotaru's dark hair.

"Soon," the figure replied. "Soon."
