Welcome to Pennsylvania, or as we Pennsylvanians call it PA. Yes we are weird, we are the only state that calls ourselves by the initials of our state. We are known as the Keystone State.
Pennsylvania is one of the original 13 colonies. It was founded by William Penn to create a haven for his fellow Quakers. Pennsylvania means Penn's woods. It was the second of the colonies to become a state and it became so on December 12, 1787. Pennsylvania is known as the Keystone state. The motto of PA is Virtue, Liberty, and Independence. The state capital is Harrisburg. We are the only state in the United States that you have to go to a separate store to get liquor.
Each state in the United states has a state tree, state bird, and state flower. Pennsylvania's tree is the Hemlock tree. The state bird is the Ruffed Grouse. The state flower is the mountain laurel.
